Sci-Fi Romance Author Goes Contemporary!!

by Jessica E. Subject
The majority of my published stories and works-in-progress are science fiction romance, but I do have a couple of contemporary romances, including BENEATH THE STARRY SKY. It’s a contemporary erotic romance; no aliens, no spaceships, no foreign planets, although there are plenty of stars. :)
While I still try to keep the same pacing and emotion in my stories, the plots, settings and characters can be very different.

Plots – Maybe the plots are all very similar. I do believe that everyone across the universe deserves a happily-ever-after, regardless of race (including aliens), sexuality, and creed. But how the characters find their happily-ever-afters vary with every story.
Settings – In my science fiction romances, I’ve used cities and places I’m familiar with, or created my own planets and futuristic worlds. But in Beneath the Starry Sky, I set the story in Las Vegas, Nevada, a city I’ve never traveled to. While the city is foreign to me, it is not to many of my readers. Therefore, I had to ensure I had accurate details. After a shout-out to my fellow authors though, I found the details I needed to write this story.
Characters – This is my favorite part of writing science fiction romance. I can create a variety of different alien species and name them whatever I like, although I do try to keep the names pronounceable. I often use mythology to choose names as well. For example, in Celestial Seduction, Frey Berger and his home planet of Ginnun come from Norse mythology. In Beneath the Starry Sky, the hero and heroine are from Earth, but they are different from the normal population. Tamara Johnston has Alopecia Areata, an autoimmune skin disease, and Josh Summers has his own secret.
While there are these differences, I always try to encourage an emotional connection between the readers and my characters. And I like to show that love is possible for everyone.

Beneath the Starry Sky book trailer

About Beneath the Starry Sky:
Left at the altar with bald patches on her head and her self-confidence stripped away, Tamara Johnson must pick up the pieces of her life and face her Alopecia Areata, the autoimmune disease causing her hair to fall out. She is convinced no man will date a bald woman and arranges a one-night stand through Madame Evangeline’s popular service, 1Night Stand. With her new wig held firmly in place, Tamara arrives at the Castillo Hotel in Las Vegas for a night of passion and pleasure. Anything more than one night would mean exposing her bald head, and she will never do that to any man again.
Running into the Castillo Hotel, away from the paparazzi constantly at his heels, Josh Summers wants to spend his next few days locked away from the flashing lights and screaming fans. When he finds an incredibly sexy woman lying on his hotel room bed in nothing but lingerie, he thinks management has made a mistake. Leaving her behind, he heads for the lobby to get the situation rectified. But an unexpected text from Madame Evangeline sends him back to his room. Though unsure whether the woman on the bed is really his perfect match or just another fan believing him to be like his character on television, he knows he must find out, even if it means he must risk telling her his own secrets. If Tamara can handle his imperfections, she just might be his ideal woman.

Summer Reading...or Listening

It’s summer and the temperatures are warming up. This is the time I love to sit out by the pool and imagine I’m on a beach somewhere reading. When I write during the summer nearly all of my stories have something to do with hot weather and the beach. To me there’s something very relaxing about soaking up the sun and escaping to a new world, even if it’s only for an hour or two. Of course, the resulting sun burn isn’t always as fun.
I like reading beach books, but I’m pretty much happy reading any story in the summer. My favorites are the ones that take me on an adventure.
My first audiobook, The Devil’s Bond, just released. The weather is perfect for sitting outside in Freewill, WY. Annaliese loves to work on her art projects outside. Garrett trains horses and spends time at the rodeos during the summer.
What is your favorite summer read?

The Devil’s Bond
On a vacation she didn’t ask for, Annaliese Becker follows her muse from Dallas to Freewill, Wyoming. Along the way, she takes pictures and sketches monuments—like Devil’s Tower. A brief glimpse of a handsome Native American makes an impression on the artist.
Fulfilling a promise to his grandfather, Garrett Falcon stops at Devil’s Tower and spots a lovely woman. When he meets her in Freewill, he believes fate has spoken and pursues Annaliese—determined to convince her to stay in Freewill—with him.
Vacations are supposed to end, but her heart longs to stay in Freewill. Can Garrett convince her they were meant to be together?

Author Bio:

Born and raised in Texas, Jennah is a transplant to Missouri long enough ago she should probably consider that her hometown. But she will forever be a Texan. She loves to write any story that will make a reader smile, laugh, and maybe even cry (although you won't ever hear her admit that she cries). Whether the next story she writes is contemporary, urban fantasy, LGBT, or whatever other crazy idea she comes up with, there will always be love and romance in the midst of trials and turmoil.

10 Advantages of Having a Box Seat

by Jessica E. Subject

In my 1Night Stand story, SUDDEN BREAKAWAY, Madame Eve arranges for Paige and Jared to spend their date at a hockey game. But, they are lucky enough to have their own private booth. Here are some advantages of having their date there instead of in the regular seats...

10. Parking passes are included. You don’t have to worry about driving around to find a place to park, or worrying about your vehicle while you’re at the game.
9. You get to go in your own entrance and don’t have to worry about standing in line to get in.
8. The seats are more comfortable.
7. You have your own bathroom.
6. Your view of the game isn’t blocked.
5. You can bring your own food or at least have more room to eat.
4. If  your legs get cramped, you can get up and move around without upsetting anyone.
3. If your team is losing, you can watch something else.
2. You can wear whatever jersey you want and not have to worry about sitting with fans from the other team.
1. You can get intimate with your date without having to worry about getting caught on camera.

Here’s an excerpt:
He reached around her back for the zipper of her dress. Time to get it off.
The zip of the teeth letting go was overshadowed by her soft sighs as he kissed his way down her neck. He dipped his hands under the straps to slide the outfit down. Without a bra, her breasts spilled over the seam of her dress. How he’d longed to touch them, lick them, like he wanted to do to every inch of her body. She arched her back, launching her creamy mounds even closer to his face. His. All his, at least for today.
Cupping both breasts, he licked one of her pebbled tips.
She cried out, throwing her head back. “Oh, Jared. Do you know how long it’s been?”
As long as it had been for him? After leaving the Marine Corps, he’d spent all his time focused on getting custody of his niece and nephew, ignoring his sexual urges, relying on his fist. How many women wanted a guy with young ones attached? But would he want a female role model for them someday? Didn’t matter. He had Paige’s tit in his mouth and a hard-on that could break wood.
She twisted away from him. “Did you hear that?”
Fuck. “No. We’re at a hockey game. It could be anything.” He’d go mad if she stopped at every sound.
“I swear I heard someone at the door.” She yanked up the straps and tucked her boobs back into the material.
No, no, no.
And then he heard it, too. The snap of the lock disengaging before the door opened. Shit.
He spun Paige around, hoping she looked presentable, and zipped her dress up. In front of him, she could hide the bulge in his pants. Yet he made sure she felt it pressing into the crack of her firm ass cheeks. Glancing over her shoulder, he clenched his fists as her cleavage heaved, resisting the urge to take them in his hands again.
The woman who’d escorted him up to the suite peeked in. “I have your lunches.”

Getting to know the characters from Their Secretary

It is my pleasure to introduce to you, Piper, Tyce and Colton. They’ve agreed to sit down with me today and explain why they decided to take the leap and go out on a 1Night Stand date.

Good Morning, everyone! Why don’t you tell me a little about how you all met?

T: Well, see, it was a dark and dreary night and-C: Always with the wise cracks.
P: I think she means when you hired me. *Chuckles*

Well any answer would be great.

C: Tyce and I opened the office straight out of college. For a long time, we handled the whole load ourselves—
T: *Snickers* Load.
C: *Cuts his eyes at his lover* Anyway, when the company started growing, we knew we would need another person to help us out.
T: Piper was the second person who can in. *Smiles at their girl.* We knew she’d be the one.
C: She wore this polka-dot skirt and a white blouse—
T: With these pearls. For the first three weeks she wore them every day.
C: I think it was love at first sight for both of us.
P: *Blushes* Well, what they don’t tell you is that I was so nervous coming to work for them. I mean these guys made it on the Forbes list in no time. They have clients around the world, and I…I was just trying to find my way through this world.

Your story is interesting, Piper. I think it’s pretty admirable how you decided to be your own person. It had to be scary. What happened to make you choose to do so?

P: *Clears her throat* I couldn’t do it anymore. I couldn’t not be me. My mom was so strict. She had these schedules for everything. I swear if she could have put me on a routine for going to the bathroom, she would have. So, when I went away to college, it felt good to be free. To find myself. What I found out is that I didn’t like myself. So, I started over. I reinvented myself.
C: If she hadn’t, we would have never met her. I believe we were destined to meet. Like, kismet.
T: I agree. It felt like the stars aligned the minute she walked in our door. Everything seemed to calm down and we were at ease.

Awe. So, when you guys saw each other at the ball, what did you think?

C: Absolutely blown away. Piper’s hair was the biggest change. I kind of liked it. It added to the role play aspect of the night. Then the dress. Man. Madame Eve did something right with that amazing costume.
T: I’m just going to say it. She gave me a chubby. Not going to lie. My mouth watered. My hands itched to touch her. I couldn’t believe our Piper had, number one agreed to the date, and number two, made the Victorian Era look so good.
P: They looked amazing as always. I couldn’t believe Madame Eve used Dracula, but seeing the guys in there suits… *Giggles* We kept the costumes. We pull them out from time to time.

Kinky, you three. So, what’s next for you?

C: Normalcy. I think I want to just settle down and cultivate this relationship we’re starting. I think after everything that’s happened we deserve a little quality time.
T: I think we should take a vacation.
P: Someplace tropical with fruity drinks. When can we leave?
C: Well, as a matter of fact… *Pulls out the tickets* How about starting now?

Well, I guess we’ll leave these love birds to themselves. Find out how it all begins. Pick up your copy of Their Secretary, on February 18th! Until then, check out the blurb and excerpt from their book.

Blurb:
Piper Collins is out of love and out of time. After witnessing her bosses’ affection for one another, she resigns her position and decides to start over. But before embarking on her new life, she decides to give 1NS and Madam Eve a chance to show her what she could have had, if only she were braver.
Business partners, Colton Shaw and Tyce Stewart have been lovers for years. But something’s missing from their union. Their beautiful but shy secretary has been watching them day and night, as though she were a love struck puppy. However, their plan to bring her into their relationship backfires. Not only will she not join them, she runs away heartbroken.
With Madam Eve’s help, they want to prove once and for all she is their girl—the third to complete them. Can Colton and Tyce convince Piper of their love, or will they lose the girl of their dreams forever?

Excerpt: The horn honked in an annoying pattern, and she had to get going. She took a deep breath, let it out, and picked up her luggage. Stepping out of the apartment building, she apologized to the cabbie for making him wait and placed her stuff in the trunk. If she was committed to going on this date, she might as well make the most of it. Of course, she could open her laptop and cancel everything at any point before she went through security—or even after—but some part of her told her she needed to go through with the date. Who knows, you might find your Prince Charming. Or at least have a bit of fun.
Fun. A three-letter word she knew little about. Her existence consisted more of working and proving herself than any actual fun. Piper’s father and mother demanded perfection her whole life. They lived in the richest part of Manhattan, had drivers, more money than they knew what to do with, and had raised her to be a socialite, but she’d never fit their mold. She wasn’t perfect.
She needed to lose weight. Stand taller. Go to a better school. Get a better degree. Her mother’s words rang out in her mind. A proper lady should fit into her clothes as though they are a second skin. Her job, if she has one, must be in a respectable profession such as law, medicine, or perhaps finance, and her home always kept in pristine condition. Instead of following the path laid out for her, she’d used her time in college to plan her own future.
By her sophomore year, she’d given up reliance on her parents’ money, using scholarships and work-study to pay her tuition and expenses. She studied day and night, and, though she had no social life to speak of, she gained her independence. Piper took pride in the ability to provide for herself and to make her own decisions without worrying about what society would think.
But at the same time, her pride kept her from what she craved. If she wanted something meaningful from Colton and Tyce, she needed to swallow her insecurities and tell them exactly what she wanted…them. But her sense of self-preservation kept her from opening up. Memories of the day she witnessed their embrace filled her mind once more. In her fantasy, she placed herself between them. They turned, eyes filled with adoration, heat, and lust upon her.
She couldn’t make out their murmured words, but the pure emotion of what they said filled her with warmth. From her toes to the top of her head, she vibrated with such need she could scarcely hold herself still. Her panties damp from the intense throb of anticipation flowing through her, Piper shifted from foot to foot, trying to ease the ache. What held her back from asking Colton to pleasure her? What stopped her from placing Tyce’s hand between her thighs and showing him what she wanted? In her mind, they stood frozen in time, waiting for her to make the next move.
You can do this, Piper. Take the final leap and lay it out there for them.

Because a Dragon’s Passion burns deep inside…!

By: Kali Willows

I wrote my first dragon 1NS story about a scorching ménage romance, of super yummy parahuman twins & a divorcee with a tricky twist of her own in: Double Dragon Seduction, in 2011. Little did I know I had just embarked on a sizzling literary path that would drive me full-speed ahead to continue this into a full, multi-generational, mini-series. The interracial tale of this threesome that scooted off to a hidden romantic getaway under Niagara Falls, took on a life of its own.
The vision of my delicious, identical twins; Tatsu and Yong Li. Tall, dark and bright jade eyes, with a fiery lineage that makes finding romance illusive, proved highly addictive. I loved these characters so much, even after they were published and became my best-selling story. With a mere HFN ending, I had to give them an even greater tale. Next came a rift in my yummy shifter’s love triangle, in Dragon Temptation, that included an exotic destination wedding, jilted lovers and unexpected adventure that includes the bride’s best friend, Cindy Dunham. The third in the series, Dragon’s Breath, brought in their sexy, daredevil cousin, Kaida Li, who has some romance to seek out with a unique hunk of stony burning love, Roark Blackwell.
If that wasn’t juicy enough, as the series grew, I was compelled by reader questions to delve into the past and further explore my dragon’s Chinese ancestry. So, last came the story of Shen Li and Lien Long, Dragon’s Bond, who fell in love at first sight, but tradition and tragedy had torn them apart. Both fled their home of China and began separate lives in San Francisco, until a little mystical help from Madame Eve and their friends bring them face to face, once again.
For fans of this sizzling series, it will become available in a bundle package February 10, 2015, with a little extra bonus to tie the family tress and culture together for you! I am also so please to share, it will be available for an AMAZING PRICE, compliments of Decadent Publishing! Soon after, a print copy will be made available by April 2015.

He Came Upon a Midnight Clear

I think Christmas stories never go out of style. Today I’m giving you a taste of two of my favorites. I’m also giving away one copy of each so be sure to leave a comment.

First up is Cody Alvarez, who needs a bride to inherent the family ranch, and Libby Morris, who wonders if there’s a prince who will love her new and improved self..

Blurb:
Cody Alvarez needed to find a wife by Christmas or he would lose the ranch his uncle left to him. Libby Morris just needed, for once in her life, to feel desired. Sensual. Appealing. Especially after an intense reshaping at a high-end spa. Invited to Christmas Week at the Castillo Lodge in Alaska by Madame Eve of 1Night Stand, Cody and Libby were not given the names of the partners chosen for them. As they were forced to wait until they learned who their one-night stands were, they discovered an incredible spark of chemistry and a connection stronger than either had experienced before. Would spending a very erotic night together ruin their arrangements or give them another option?

Excerpt:
“I’m not very good at this,” she said slowly.
He squeezed her hand gently. “At eating dinner?”
She shook her head, still not looking at him. “At…small talk. Dating. Things like this.” Her cheeks felt so hot she thought they must match her lipstick.
“Libby?” Cody’s voice barely penetrated the fog of embarrassment. And he still had hold of her hand.  “Libby, look at me.”
Reluctantly she raised her eyes.
“I’m going to order us each another drink and then I’d be interested to find out why someone as beautiful and sexy as you has trouble in a social situation like this. Surely you must be beating the men off with a stick.”
She made herself breath evenly. She might as well tell him. They’d never see each other again and maybe he could give her some moral support. Besides, he made her feel comfortable, something her assigned date night not do.
The waiter cleared their dessert dishes, brought another glass of wine for her and bourbon on the rocks for Cody. He touched his glass to hers.
“To us. Two people enjoying a nice dinner.”
She laughed at that and swallowed some wine.
“Now. Let’s have it. What’s got you skittish as a newborn calf?”
“You’ll laugh at me.”
He smiled. “Darlin’, the last thing I’ll do is laugh. I promise.”
She took another gulp of wine. “Well, they say it’s easier to tell things to a stranger.”
“Oh, but we’re not strangers,” he protested. “Are we? We spent all that time on the plane together, right? But Libby? It’s still all right to talk to me. Tell me.”
She drained her wine glass and held it out. “C-Could I have another drink? Please?”
Cody laughed. “Yes, but then I’m cutting you off. I don’t want anyone to accuse me of getting you drunk and taking advantage of you.”
Her breath caught in her throat. “I…You…”
He signaled for the waiter then picked up her hand again. She wished he’d never drop it. It felt so good and secure.
“Breathe,” he teased gently. “It’s okay. Just relax. If you don’t want to say anything you don’t have to. Really.”
“I’ve been fat and frumpy and boring all my life,” she blurted out then wished she could dive under the table. When he didn’t say anything she made herself look up and saw him staring at her. “What?”
He cleared his throat. “Libby. I have to say that those are three words I would never associate with you.”
The waiter brought their drinks and she paused long enough to sip some of hers. “That’s because you didn’t know me. Even now I have a long ways to go.”
“For what?” He sounded astonished.
“For, you know. To look like everyone else.”
“Why the hell would you want that? You’re perfect the way you are.”
She snorted. “Oh, sure. That’s nice of you to say but you don’t have to be polite. I just spent two months at a spa to get to this point.” He hadn’t stopped staring at her. “That’s why I booked this thing through 1 Night Stand. A woman at the spa told me about them.” Her face heated again. “I wanted an exciting, erotic night like my girl friends talk about. An adventure. You know. Hot sex.”
Oh, god, maybe the floor would just open up and swallow her.
Cody downed his bourbon in two swallows and signaled the waiter for the check.
“Finish your wine. We’re getting out of here.”

DECADENT

~Excerpt~
Before she realized it, he tilted her to face him, one arm around her, the other hand cupping her chin. He pressed his lips against hers, a butterfly touch, so feather light it was barely there. She didn’t pull away, and the pressure increased. And when her arms came up to wrap around him, he traced the seam of her lips with his tongue.
He kissed one corner of her mouth then the other before murmuring, “Let me in. Please.”
It was the dream all over again, except this time she could actually taste him, and he was delicious. She opened her mouth to let his tongue sweep inside, and she offered him her own. It wasn’t the most passionate kiss she’d ever had or the most aggressive, but it certainly was the most possessive. As if he was somehow claiming ownership. And she had no desire to push him away.
She threaded her fingers through his hair, as smooth to the touch as his beard, and held his head to hers while he gently plundered her mouth. His tongue lit fires every place he touched, the heat flowing down through her body and making her muscles clench with desire. This was at once the most erotic and the most emotional kiss she’d ever shared, and she never wanted it to stop. It was only lack of oxygen that made them break the contact at last. She didn’t try to move away, hoping he’d take it as a sign not to let go. They sat there for a long moment, arms wrapped around each other, her head against his shoulder.
“I dreamed about kissing you like this.”
The words were whispered so faintly at first Nina wasn’t sure she heard correctly. “You did?”
“Uh huh. A lot.” He gently nipped her ear lobe. “About tasting you, inhaling your scent. Touching you everywhere. Do you dream that way?”
She squeezed her thighs together against the sudden hunger beating through her, her voice unsteady when she answered him. “Yes. Yes, I do.” She stroked his beard again. “Blake? Won’t you please take off the blindfold so I can see you?”
His muscles tightened for a moment then relaxed. “No. I can’t. Not yet. Please don’t ask me.” His laugh was forced. “Let’s keep this a fantasy for the time being, okay?”
“All right.” His words sounded so desperate, how could she say no?
