A Brief Thought on Rules

By Gina Wynn

Rules. What would life be without them? We drive on the left in Britain…but don’t try that in the States. We stop for a red light. We don’t talk with our mouths full. We all rise when the judge enters the courtroom. Maybe we all have personal rules, too. Always wear clean underwear in case you get rushed to hospital. No sex with socks on. But what would we do if someone removed the rules?

In Her Dollmaker’s Desire, Amy’s rules are taken away. They wouldn’t make sense outside her world of dancing, but she doesn’t know quite how to function without them. Before, she had rules for every occasion – what to eat, when to speak, etc. but she suddenly has no one to reinforce them. Worse, she has a situation she doesn’t know how to handle, and no rules to guide her through. What exactly should she do with a motorbike riding, leather jacket wearing, tattooed ex-gang member?

When a Book Character Comes to Life

Her Real-life Hero
Beyond Fairytales version of The Frog Prince and Iron Henry
By Vicki Ballante

When I write a book, I delve into a new world. It’s addictive and pleasurable in so many ways, despite the hard work. While I’m in the middle of a story, my mind lives with the characters; I can almost feel them close to my heart. In a way, I become my heroine. I suppose all writers go through this. But what if one of those characters came alive and entered your life?
The heroine in Her Real-life Hero is an aspiring romance writer. She yearns to get her romance novels published but so far hasn’t had much success. When a rejection letter informs her that she needs deeper point of view, she tries to discover what that means. Little does she realise that buying an antique bureau from the antique shop down the road will bring magic into her life. Magic that enables her to speak to her hero, Theo, and ask his advice. When she promises he can share her life with her in exchange for writing advice, she doesn’t expect him to hold her to the promise. Imagine one of the characters in your book coming to life? Wouldn’t it be awesome, especially a yummy romance hero?

Anyhoo, Joanie’s not too pleased because the magic forces them together and she is revelling in time to herself. When she kisses this froggie called Theo, will he become her prince?

Thank you,

Vicki

Claimed by the Bad Boy

 By London Saint James
One of my favorite things about writing is being in “the flow zone.” It’s the time where your characters have so much going on in their lives, and so much to say as your writing their story, you get lost in it with them. By the time you come back to the real world, your manuscript is done. That’s what happened when I was writing Claimed by the Bad Boy. I sat down to write Ryker and Molly’s story, and stayed in the zone.
What’s the down side? Things like dishes piling up in the sink. Wearing some crazy outfit that’s been in your closet since the 80’s because you’ve been so busy writing you haven’t done your laundry and it’s the only thing clean. Figuring out you haven’t been to the grocery store in a while when you see exactly one egg, a jar of pickles, something which was take-out, but now it’s suspiciously close to a moldy science experiment, and a bottle of ketchup in the refrigerator.
Now it’s time to share the outcome of being in my flow zone. So, while you read, I’ll go tackle all the dust bunnies that procreated while I was busy writing.

Something always brings him back to her...

Excerpt:

What am I doing? Molly leaned a hip against the counter in the restroom at the office, holding her phone in her hand, and staring at the text she’d sent, which indicated it had been read. She’d excused herself in the middle of great conversation while eating some freaking awesome dumplings with Jack to sneak in here and hide out like a criminal. Why? Because she felt compelled to answer a text from someone she shouldn’t be giving the time of day. Or night, as the case may be.
Tapping her foot on the tiles, she closed her eyes. She was going to give Ryker to the count of ten to respond. If he didn’t. Well, even better. She’d forget about her poor judgment. Forget he’d texted. Continue to stop thinking about him, and go back to finish her dinner with a man who was interested in being with her.
By the count of nine, she was one second from turning her phone off when the dweedle-deet had her eyelids fluttering open.
Molly glanced down and tapped the screen.
I’m home. Sitting outside, texting you.
Molly’s heart sped up as though she’d just crossed the finish line at the Boston marathon. Ryker was home. In Denver. Oh my God. She took a deep breath and typed.
When did you get back from Singapore?
She pressed send and waited. And waited. And waited….
Dweedle-deet.
Biting her lip, she read.
I’ve made a few short trips here since Singapore. Went to a software convention in LasVegas, took a trip to Detroit. Dallas. Seattle. Then I decided to come home. I got here a few days ago.
He’d decided to come home? What did that mean? Molly typed.
How long you home for?
The time seemed to tick by in agonizing slowness, allowing her mind to conjure up a picture-show of the last time she’d seen him. He’d been glowering at her—the fury rolling in akin to a storm about to break within the depths of those ocean-colored eyes. She even recalled the deep resonating tone of finality in his voice.
Leave, Molly. Or I will.
Dweedle-deet.
She blinked, letting the memory slip away like little granules of sand from her hand, too difficult to hold onto, and stared at the phone in her palm.
Not sure. I may stay.
An unwanted tear trickled down the contour of her cheek, slid over her mouth, and dripped off her chin before she swiped the moisture away and typed.
I have to get back to what I was doing. It was good hearing from you, Ryker. Goodnight.

Prince of Tyto Chasing Terran Tail on Elatia

by Jessica E. Subject

Hello! I recently caught up with Aristides, Prince of Tyto, on the planet Elatia. It was a rare occasion to see the Prince away from home and without any guards, so I used the chance to ask him a few questions. Here’s what he had to say....

Hey, Prince Aris, what are you doing on Elatia? Are you alone?
Aris: Yes, I’m checking out all the planet has to offer.
So, you finally decided to leave Tyto?
Aris: [He nods with a sigh.] Yes, I needed a break from the place, from my parents.
Interesting. What does Madelia, your betrothed think of your trip here.
Aris: [He shrugs.] She doesn’t know, and I’m sure she doesn’t care. Our engagement has ended, and she’s quite happy with Benignus.
Your Gentleman of the Bedchamber? When did that happen?
Aris: Just before I left.
Yet, you don’t seem upset about it.
Aris: I’m not. The two of them were meant to be a couple, and I helped  to make it happen. [He smiles, as if proud at bringing the two of them together.]
So, what carnal pleasures do you plan on partaking in while visiting Elatia?
Aris: [He checks his watch.] I have an appointment with an Adamo shortly, but I’d rather hunt down the woman I just ran into. [He glances past me.] Did you happen to see another Terran like you dart past? Her name is Xia. I lost where she went.
No, but if I see another Terran, I’ll ask her name, and tell her you’re looking for her.
Aris: Thanks. [He wanders off.]
And there you have it. The Prince of Tyto is on the pleasure planet without his entourage. But, he is more interested in a woman who caught his eye. A Terran woman at that, a sworn enemy of his Kingdom.

Looking to experience all the universe has to offer, Prince Aristides escapes from the kingdom of Tyto and travels through space to the Emerald Planet, Elatia. He yearns to partake in the activities the planet is famous for, and fulfill all his sexual desires, but loses his heart and soul to an Adamos apprentice. Unfortunately, she is Terran, and her people are sworn enemies of those from Tyto. If he can convince Xia to give up her dreams of becoming an Adamos, and travel back to Tyto with him, will his parents accept her, or condemn them both?
Abandoned as a toddler on Elatia, and raised by Kalara, an Adamos specializing in erotic massage, Xia decides to follow in her footsteps. But she remains conflicted as to whether she wants to service clients for the rest of her life, or settle down and raise a family. When she meets Aris, he turns the tables on her, and brings her as much pleasure as she gives him.
Will they have their chance to be together, or will their families tear them away from any chance of young love?

Sci-Fi Romance Author Goes Contemporary!!

by Jessica E. Subject
The majority of my published stories and works-in-progress are science fiction romance, but I do have a couple of contemporary romances, including BENEATH THE STARRY SKY. It’s a contemporary erotic romance; no aliens, no spaceships, no foreign planets, although there are plenty of stars. :)
While I still try to keep the same pacing and emotion in my stories, the plots, settings and characters can be very different.

Plots – Maybe the plots are all very similar. I do believe that everyone across the universe deserves a happily-ever-after, regardless of race (including aliens), sexuality, and creed. But how the characters find their happily-ever-afters vary with every story.
Settings – In my science fiction romances, I’ve used cities and places I’m familiar with, or created my own planets and futuristic worlds. But in Beneath the Starry Sky, I set the story in Las Vegas, Nevada, a city I’ve never traveled to. While the city is foreign to me, it is not to many of my readers. Therefore, I had to ensure I had accurate details. After a shout-out to my fellow authors though, I found the details I needed to write this story.
Characters – This is my favorite part of writing science fiction romance. I can create a variety of different alien species and name them whatever I like, although I do try to keep the names pronounceable. I often use mythology to choose names as well. For example, in Celestial Seduction, Frey Berger and his home planet of Ginnun come from Norse mythology. In Beneath the Starry Sky, the hero and heroine are from Earth, but they are different from the normal population. Tamara Johnston has Alopecia Areata, an autoimmune skin disease, and Josh Summers has his own secret.
While there are these differences, I always try to encourage an emotional connection between the readers and my characters. And I like to show that love is possible for everyone.

About Beneath the Starry Sky:
Left at the altar with bald patches on her head and her self-confidence stripped away, Tamara Johnson must pick up the pieces of her life and face her Alopecia Areata, the autoimmune disease causing her hair to fall out. She is convinced no man will date a bald woman and arranges a one-night stand through Madame Evangeline’s popular service, 1Night Stand. With her new wig held firmly in place, Tamara arrives at the Castillo Hotel in Las Vegas for a night of passion and pleasure. Anything more than one night would mean exposing her bald head, and she will never do that to any man again.
Running into the Castillo Hotel, away from the paparazzi constantly at his heels, Josh Summers wants to spend his next few days locked away from the flashing lights and screaming fans. When he finds an incredibly sexy woman lying on his hotel room bed in nothing but lingerie, he thinks management has made a mistake. Leaving her behind, he heads for the lobby to get the situation rectified. But an unexpected text from Madame Evangeline sends him back to his room. Though unsure whether the woman on the bed is really his perfect match or just another fan believing him to be like his character on television, he knows he must find out, even if it means he must risk telling her his own secrets. If Tamara can handle his imperfections, she just might be his ideal woman.
