Character Interview with Gwen Fairfax from A Bride Worth Fighting For

Interview conducted by Cemil Rowan, co-owner and empath of the Wiccan Haus

Cemil:  Thank you for coming to chat with us today. Why do you think Sara Daniel choose you to represent her/him?

Gwen:  *laughs* I have no idea. Maybe she had amnesia about my amnesia and forgot that I can’t remember anything!

Cemil:  Tell us a little about yourself?

Gwen:  Well, I woke up in the hospital a few days ago and couldn’t remember a thing about the past ten months. Apparently, I’m engaged to this total hunk who happens to be the most perfect, sensitive, patient fiancé ever.

Cemil:  Which of the Rowans do you most connect with and why?

Gwen:  I feel like you get me, Cemil, so I hope you won’t be offended when I say I adore how Sage is always there for me. She’s like a best friend and a mother rolled into one, and she is always making me these weird colored shakes that somehow make me feel better.

Cemil:  What is your birth date?

Gwen:  Um, well, I don’t recall the exact date. Pull my driver’s license out of my purse. That should give you all my stats.

Cemil:  Why did you come to the Wiccan Haus?

Gwen:  That’s pretty obvious, even for the girl who can’t remember anything. I came to get my memory back and to fall in love with my fiancé again.

Cemil:  What do you do to relax?

Gwen:  As far as I know—sleep, sleep, and more sleep. Hopefully, I’ll discover something more exciting while I’m at the Wiccan Haus this week.

Cemil:  Tell us about Tucker. What drew you to him?

Gwen:  Of course, I don’t remember what initially drew me to him, but I can guess. He’s gorgeous in that rugged “I forgot to shave again” kind of way. He’s always solicitous and thoughtful, putting my needs before his own. He has a huge passion for the environment. When he starts talking about plant life, his eyes just light up. Between you and me, I wish he’d look at me that way some time. Oh man, I shouldn’t have said that. Please, don’t put that in the interview. I just wish I knew what he saw in me that brought us together.

Cemil:  What’s your biggest turn on? Turn off?

Gwen:  How pathetic is this? I could tell you those things about Tucker, but I don’t know them about myself yet.

Cemil:  What your favorite ice cream flavor, chocolate, vanilla, or strawberry?

Gwen:  Not sure, but strawberry sounds yummy. Honestly, though, if I had my choice, I’d skip the ice cream and make a bowl of cinnamon applesauce instead.

Cemil:  Why should the readers be interested in your story?

Gwen:  If you’ve ever wished for a clean slate and to start your life over with no memory of the past, give this story a try and see how it’s working out of me. Or if you’ve ever wanted to wake up and have this most gorgeous, amazing guy engaged to you, this is the book for you!

To stop his stepmother’s land development schemes from ruining the natural habitat he’s dedicated his life to preserving, Tucker Wilde is willing to do anything, even pretend to be engaged to the woman his brother left at the altar. Wiccan Haus Take 5 Quickie Character Interview

Featuring: Armando Verdad from Psychic Lies

Boxers, briefs, or commando?
What the hell kind of interview is this? I’m a government official. I can’t go on the record with those kinds of details. Off the record: briefs.
What do you sleep in?
Depends. If I’m crashing at the couch in my office, I’m wearing a lot more clothes than at home.
Favorite Beverage?
A good chardonnay always hits the spot and impresses the ladies.
Favorite Movie?
The Bourne Identity. Hey, government conspiracy, corruption, intrigue and life-or-death situations are never that far-fetched.
Favorite Food?
Let’s get a nice platter of cheese and fruit to complement that lovely wine.

By Sara Daniel

What if you could read minds during sex? What if the government wanted to exploit you for your ability?

Fiona Vetter has spent her life hiding her sexual mind-reading power, pretending to have normal, safe powers like the rest of her family. When her charade results in the death of an innocent woman, her life of lies unravels. With nowhere else to turn, she retreats to the Wiccan Haus.

To expose her as an enemy of his government, Armando Verdad follows Fiona to the Wiccan Haus. Her beauty dazzles him, her personality seduces him, and her web of lies intrigues him. But with his career and the safety of his countrymen on the line, only the truth matters.

The harder Fiona tries to keep Armando away, the more she falls for him. When enemies come searching for her, she is forced to trust him to protect her life and her psychic lies, but nothing can protect her heart.

Excerpt:
Fiona dropped her fork. How could her soul have picked him for her mate? The Fates played cruel jokes, and, once again, they did so at her expense. “The vetter was trying her best.”
“Her best to do what?” He gripped her arm a bit tighter.
“To be a vetter.” By the goddess, she’d tried so hard. Her failure had cost an innocent woman her life.
He rubbed his hand along her arm, his face breaking into a smile again. “You know, I believe you’re right.”
A fat lot of good that did for Lizbet. She dropped her gaze to his hand. “Why are you always touching me?” She didn’t know him well enough to warrant the constant contact, but pleasure sizzled under her skin at his touch. She didn’t deserve to enjoy anything.
He smiled wider. “I can’t stop myself. You feel the connection, don’t you?”
She couldn’t have a connection to a man who scorned people who didn’t use their powers for the greater good, not when she’d built the foundation of her life on denying her true powers. “I’m actually not a tactile person.”
After speaking such a big lie, she couldn’t continue to look him in the eye, not with all her powers concentrated in the most intimate tactile experience possible.
His grin split wider. “I’d love the chance to prove you wrong.”
And when he did, she’d know his thoughts. She’d know how much he despised the woman who claimed to be a vetter and allowed the commander’s beloved daughter to lifebond with a man who would murder her. Fiona had come to the Wiccan Haus to get away from the public’s hatred and scorn, not see it behind Armando’s beautiful smile and feel it no matter how warm and gentle his hands.
She shoved away from the table and ran for the exit.
“I didn’t mean to offend you. I meant it as a compliment,” he called after her.
The dining room quieted around her. Everyone stared. Once again, she drew the bad kind of attention. But she couldn’t stop.
Despite her desire to be a simple vetter, without real vetting powers that life could only be a lie. The truth, however, was far worse than a life of lies.

xoxo,

Celia

Book Description:
British Alpha wolf Jake Marsden spends his days among humans, pursuing a lucrative music career and avoiding his pack’s politics. When his current DJ tour takes him to the US, he stops in Los Lobos to visit family, and runs into the one Wolf he never wants to see again—the mate who rejected his claim.
While visiting her brother in Los Lobos, free-spirited Lexi Luparell is shocked to encounter the Wolf she’d denied when they were teens. Now she must face her guilt for the cruel way she spurned him all those years ago, make amends, and admit the truth. Jake was right all along—they’re meant to mate.
Lexi would love to explore the mate concept and her overwhelming attraction to virile, alpha Wolf Jake, but he wants nothing to do with her. How can she break down his defenses when she’s the reason he built them in the first place?
Jake dates only human women now. Lexi had her shot at being his mate, and she threw it away. But when her life is threatened, he may have to rethink his position and do whatever it takes to claim his one true mate.

Excerpt:
Wow, oh wow—J-Bird could kiss. Like melt her clothes clean off her body, kiss. Lexi moaned and parted her lips for Jake’s sexy, demanding mouth. He slipped his tongue inside, darting everywhere at once, exploring her so thoroughly her knees shook and she sagged in his iron embrace. God, his body was hard, nothing like the skinny kid from her memory. But his scent, that was the same. Musky man and smoky oak, like the white oak trees in the Hoosier National Forest where they used to hang when they were kids. Plus that sweet touch of maple. Delicious.
She let her tongue tangle with his, tasting the mint of his toothpaste mixed with the beer he’d obviously consumed before entering the house. Sparks of pleasure darted down her body all the way to her toes. Her boring ex, Dean, had never made her feel like this.
In fact, no one had ever kissed her like this, as if the zombie apocalypse had descended upon them and this was their last chance at happiness before doom struck them dead and ate their brains. Desperation, need, hunger, deep longing...it was all there in the way his hands clamped her tight to his torso, there in the way his mouth claimed hers, owning it.
She wound her arms around his neck, letting the pads of her fingers massage along the shaved hair at his nape. Desire drenched the G-string bikini bottoms she wore under her shorts. She’d battle a thousand brain-dead ghouls if he would touch her there, where she burned and ached for him. Her mate. God, was this happening?

Shifting Hearts

Shifting Hearts
Book 1 in the Wiccan Haus Series

By Dominique Eastwick

The last of his kind…
Rekkus is the last of the great Black Tiger weres, and he’s happy to stay that way. Working as head of security for the Wiccan Haus, a magical spa for inner healing, he has enough danger to keep him busy. Unfortunately, the Fates are not content with him being comfortable.

Alone and discouraged…
Dana has walked away from everything—her fiancé, family, job, and apartment. A stay at the Wiccan Haus may be the only way she can move on. But what she finds isn’t what she expects, nor is it what she thought she’d been seeking.
If they can open themselves up they might discover that being together can be better than being alone and learn that passion can burn in those who least expect it.

Meet the unusual residents of the Wiccan Haus.
The staff can get a little hairy, and not all of the guests eat what’s served in the dining hall. But the Rowan siblings do what they can to make the resort a place of healing and peace, using all of their years of practice. At the Haus, where humans and paranormals reside side by side, everyone in need of the services are welcome. If some happens to fall in love then all the better.

Welcome to the Wiccan Haus

“It’s not safe for you here with me. I left you alone last night, but, if you stay, I’m not sure I can honor a request to stop a second time.”
“I felt it, too,” she blurted, unable to keep it to herself any longer.
Rekkus moved so fast, she never saw him actually take a step. Strong, wet arms wrapped around her, and her breasts pressed against his chest. His eyes searched hers. He must have seen what he searched for because his lips were on hers with feverous desire before she formed another thought, demanding she open for him. And no part of her considered denying him anything. Butterflies churned in her stomach until she shook. In all the years with Frank, and it had been a great many, she’d never felt this, like fire threatened to engulf her.

Dana wound her arms around his neck, running her fingers through his damp hair and deepening the kiss. His moan allowed her to gather the nerve and strength to urge him forward. He forced her past her comfort zone into accepting the sexy seductress screaming to be let out. She knew what he most desired because she wanted it too. Wanted him, all of him, every naked inch, right there, next to the lake, not even a ten-minute walk from the Haus. Anyone might stumble across them, and she didn’t care. It almost added to the allure of having him. What she needed it to be.

Travel to Copenhagen

 By Katherine McIntyre

One of the things I love most about writing and reading is how it sates my wanderlust. Don’t get me wrong—I still adore traveling, and each year I try to chip away at my ever expanding bucket list—however, writing new stories in different locations helps me get through those pockets in between. So, when I signed up for the Beyond Fairytales challenge and was assigned the fairytale String of Pearls, I knew I had to seize upon that location: Copenhagen, Denmark.
String of Pearls is an older woman’s recollection of the Copenhagen line and how she met her sweetheart along the way. Immediately a yearning seized me to explore the jewels of Denmark and what it might hold. The main character, Erik, is a soul collector who travels along the Copenhagen line, stopping at a different club each night. Not only did that allow me to explore the club scene in Denmark, but also different structures, like St. Mikkel’s Church, and the Great Belt Bridge.
Only problem is, I’ve never been to Denmark in my life.
So how to get details and properly envision what it would be like? One of the ways I do that is through Google Maps. That has been a lifesaver for me when I research my settings for any contemporary romance or urban fantasy stories that I work on. I zoom in on the areas and check street views of the spots to get a scope of things, and searching images works as well. However, I also had some help on the more detailed cultural questions since one of my friends happened to live in Denmark for awhile.
Once I wrote about it though, the travel bug bit me, and although Denmark was never on my list of places to go before, it’s marked down there now. Join me in falling in love with another city, and read Soul Solution, part of Decadent Publishing’s wonderful Beyond Fairytales series. Hopefully the city will cast the same magic on you as it did for Mina and Erik.

Soul Solution blurb:
For Erik Anderson, the Copenhagen line is his curse. He takes the train every night en route to collect souls. Like any lovelorn fool, he bargained his own long ago, and now pays the price—a lifetime of loneliness as a grim reaper.  Stay distant—that’s been his mantra and what keeps him sane.
Until Mina Castner drops into his life like a whirlwind, one spilled drink leading to staying up until dawn with the woman. He believed one night couldn’t hurt, but he sorely underestimated her determination. Every encounter between them is a reprieve from the guilt of reaping souls every night, but it can’t last. Even if she sparks long buried feelings, and even if her sheer presence intoxicates him, he can’t let this continue. For humans, his touch is poison, and if he slips up, it could cost her life.

Meet Celia Breslin!

Hi Everyone,

Happy summer! Nice to be back on the Decadent blog for a visit.  When my Wolf shifters found out I was making a return visit, Darci decided she would interview me. She said I spend a lot of time sharing her info with the world, and I was due to share some deets about myself, LOL.

[Darci:] That’s right, I said you’re due and I meant it. ::smiles:: Now spill it, Celia. Do you have another job in addition to writing?

[Celia:] Mom, cat wrangler, line and content editor, slush pile reader, Joss Whedon fan. Oh wait, that last one isn’t actually a job, ha.

[Darci:] Since I know you love to talk about us, I’ll give you a little break. Summarize our story in less than 20 words.

[Celia:]  Okay, how about three words?  Wolf shifters, love, mayhem.  :-)

::Darci rolls eyes::

Okay, just kidding. Here are twenty words for Diamond Moon:  “Free-spirited human-werewolf hybrid meets fated werewolf mate while on quest to find a cure for her near fatal, painful shifts.”

[Darci:]  Free-spirited. I like that. Why do you write about us?  And by us, I mean Wolf shifters.

[Celia:]  I love paranormal fiction, both reading and writing it.  Werewolves, vampires, and the Fae are my favorite paranormal peeps.

[Darci:]  Tell your readers how long you’ve been writing and who, or what, inspired you to go for it.

[Celia:]  My Irish grandmother started it with her stories of the Fae, including one tale of her encounter with a Banshee in her root cellar. Imagination fueled, I wrote a lot of fairytales as a kid.

[Darci:]  Do you choose a title first, or write the book then choose the title?

[Celia:]  Title usually happens first, though the title is derived from the subject matter of the book, so that’s a little bit like asking, “What comes first, chicken or egg?”   :-)  For your story, Darci, the title came as soon as I “met” you, meaning while I was compiling notes on you and outlining your story. For the next story about Ross’s sister, the title came after the story was written.

[Darci:]  Ah, speaking of us characters, do you discover us as you write or know all about us before you write our story?

[Celia:]  As my work is character driven, I develop character profiles prior to writing the whole story. I have detailed questionnaires on all major characters, such as you.

Darci. Of course, you all still manage to surprise me while I’m writing your stories. :-)

[Darci:]  LOL, I like keeping you guessing, Celia! Since we’re on bit of a book chat roll now, a couple more book questions.  The geek in me wants to know what format you prefer?  Digital or print?

[Celia:]  Both. I read a lot of eBooks, but there’s something quite satisfying about holding your own print book, or a print book by another author you love.

[Darci:]  Do you have a favorite book?  Have you read it more than once?

[Celia:]  I have so many favorites in varying genres. In urban fantasy/paranormal romance, I adore these series:  J. R. Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood, Kresley Cole’s Immortals After Dark, Amber Belldene’s Blood Vine, and Larissa Ione’s Demonica and Lords of Deliverance. I’ve read them all more than once.

[Darci:]  Okay, let’s wrap this up with some fun facts.  Tell the audience your favorite food, favorite singer/group, and favorite color.

[Celia:]  Gee, D, you’re letting me off easy!  For food, I love Thai, Vietnamese, Burmese, Japanese, Chinese...okay, now I’m hungry! :-)  As for preferred musicians…well, that depends on my mood. When I’m writing vampires, I gravitate toward industrial and techno/electro, so NIN, The Prodigy, Bass Kittens, Meat Beat Manifesto, etc. When I wrote your story, I listened to a broad spectrum of “love” tunes, from artists including Birthday Massacre, Maroon 5, Ed Sheeran, etc. Here’s your soundtrack, Darci:

http://decadentpublishing.blogspot.com/2015/06/diamond-moon-soundtrack.html

[Darci:]  Thanks, Celia. And thanks to everyone for joining us today for a chat! ::waves::
