Keeping an active self-promotional routine online isn’t always as easy as it seems. For some authors, it can be gruelling and arduous, for others, a true delight. Authors come from all walks of life with fantastic tales of steamy romance, intrigue, suspense and so much more. Some, work full time jobs, are raising young families and trying to juggle everything to fit in writing; others, have paid their dues, and have the opportunity to write full time and make every minute of their day count, at least, when their muses cooperate.

Online presence, in the forms of blogging, contests, advertisement and social networking can be highly effective in getting us out there to our readers, and a lot of fun! Other times, it can become an extreme distraction, cause for procrastination and the chance at some decent social interactions—come on, you have to admit, a lot of the FaceBook apps, are highly addictive and time consuming *she grins*. The voices in our heads, telling spectacular tales for us to share, aren’t always the best company to keep one completely satisfied.

Being a busy, married mother of two with a full time career, I “make time” to write in the wee hours of the night, when the house is quiet. This limited span, however, has created a dilemma for me, personally. Either write, write, write, and disconnect the internet in order to achieve my goals, (and my smart phone) or do the online promo to get the word out about my already published books, and miss out on writing time.

My solution to this? Well, truth is, I don’t have a solution: short of winning the jackpot in the lottery, and becoming a full time, stay at home mother and author. But another venue that appeases the need for public interactions is something that is near and dear to my heart anyway: RADIO.

I love doing radio. I began co-hosting a blogtalk radio show years ago, and got the radio bug, when things got too busy, I took a two year hiatus. Now, I’m back in the saddle and loving it!

Nominating a Labour of Love!!!

Being an author is allot of work, but it is a labour of love! It is such a spiritual and emotional journey, the words pouring out as you bang away on the keyboard, shaping the characters and storylines swimming in your head.

After the purge, comes the really hard work; perseverance, endless hours of editing and re-writes, feedback, and then onto submissions. Even after you finally succeed at contracting your work, there are many more edits and re-writes, and until; Voila, the finished product.

But alas, it’s only the beginning. The bigger job is self promotion of getting your work exposed to the masses, all in the hopes, that this magnificent product of your creativity, your heart and soul, can move people, affect them, and most of all, entertain them.

What are the payoffs? For me, my most favourite, is receiving comments from a reader about how they were touched by the special moments, the plot, the interactions that meant so much to me as I wrote them. That, I find is the ultimate payoff. Now, I am thrilled to be blessed with the next perk:

Tatsu  fidgeted with his cup before setting it on the bedside table.

“Is it uncomfortable?” Studying his older brother for any signs of the change, Yong cringed as Tatsu rubbed the drying skin on his forearm.

Terminal illness is a terrifying concept. Some of us can only imagine the heart wrenching anguish a diagnosis can carry and the days and weeks that we would have to lie in wait to face the end of our mortality.  Some have endured and even overcome with the wonders of faith and medical miracles. Others can say in angst, they have supported and cared for loved ones, and even held their hand in those final moments.

The initiation of this tragic journey is followed by the anger and resentment we develop for our ailing bodies that have betrayed us by not fending off the fatal invasion. Seeing a body wither and fade, from the once glorious strength and beauty we held so dear, destroys our sense of identity and our belief in a greater good. How could we possibly embrace faith at this dreadful stage? Riddled with pain and deterioration? Seeing loved ones withdraw, or fall to pieces in our presence? The denial and frustration one has to contend with, are there truly any words that can fully capture the excruciating reality?

With the finality of it, some predict peace and freedom from pain and sickness, and take comfort in the belief that the souls of their beloved go to a better place of peace and love, others, don’t know what the future holds once terminal illness has captured us in it’s clutches. I’ve read stories of remarkable couples that overcome, if only for a few moments of bliss, just knowing that making the most of their final days with the one they love, is the most precious legacy one can leave behind.

Recently, long time acquaintances of mine, that had been a solid couple for decades, decided in her final days, to celebrate their love by exchanging wedding vows, despite the little time she had left. I’ve heard many touching stories like this, which warm the heart with bitter sweetness.

I count my blessings that this is not a fate, I have had to face, yet… and pray I don’t, at least for a very, very long time. I have too much I still need to do in this life. When we have loved ones slowly fading from cancer, or other sicknesses, it always provokes our internal curiosity of “what if…” and this profound need to anticipate our reaction and how we would cope with such intensity of defining ourselves. How do we know we have left our mark? How do we take solace or we know in our hearts, we have not ventured into every area of life that has called to us?

Romance is most often the farthest concept that grips us during this crucial fight for life. Ambrosia is faced with this tragic fate, but she battles the temptation to give in to illness and fights to indulge in one last night.

“My legs—just got away from me, I guess.” Ambrosia ran her hands down her numb thighs, trying to force feeling back into them. The noise and clatter faded and she felt enveloped in a cloak of peace.

“You’re very pale; should I get some help?” His eyes scanned her. “Are you hurt?”

“No, I’m fine, thank you.” Self-conscious, she shifted her tank top into place and smoothed back her thinning hair.

“Are you sure?” He cupped icy fingers under her chin.

“Yes, thank you. Now that you mention it, you’re a little pale yourself.” Her teeth began to chatter.

“Well, you just about swept me off my feet.” He grinned, evoking the flutter of manic butterflies in her stomach. The man oozed charisma.

The Mystery Behind The Mask

There is something so romantic about throwing theme parties, or attending a costume ball. It’s as much of a rush as writing a fictional story, building settings and characters and just bringing the story to life for that brief moment in time.

But, …I want to know what are your thoughts about a masquerade ball? The elaborate Venetian costumes made with regal brocade, the Baroque music filling the air, couples dancing until the wee hours of the morning in their the fancy wigs, it’s like stepping back in time where debonair men had to take charge, but also woo the ladies with the gentleman’s courtship.

What about taking a seaside walk in the sand, with bare feet, and an overcast sky with the heady scent of brine lingering about you? The distant squawking of seagulls overhead, signalling the coming of a brewing storm, or the rippling mounds of seaweed layering the talc sand along the shoreline?

My very first story with Decadent Publishing has a castle in Spain, with a Venetian ball and a night of lovin’ the hero and heroine will never forget. I have to admit, I’m also a sucker for thunder storms and bolts of lightening on a beach.

Designing Passion is a steamy story about second chances and romantic escape. I want to know how you would feel about the prospect of making love to a man in a mask? Dragon-Lover, Once Removed

In the 1Night Stand Series, I continue to get strung along by my highly addicted muse! Each time, I complete, submit and contract a story, I think: Great! Now I can get back to my three other WIP & finally get them completed! But alas, the little vixen did it again. I do have to admit, it could have something to do with my latest sub-genre I have become obsessed with Dragons.

For fans of my fiery ménage romance, of super yummy parahuman twins & a divorcee with a tricky twist of her own in: Double Dragon Seduction, there is a sequel to this sizzling tale!

Without giving too much away, there is a destination wedding, in an exotic land, one of the twins is getting hitched, and the other…is in need of Madame Evangeline’s mystical match making help.

Dragon Temptation is coming out on Halloween!

Blurb: After a bitter divorce, Cindy Dunham has become sexually emaciated. With her best friend’s upcoming wedding, loneliness is taking the lead and she is famished for erotic rhapsody.  Having a blind date for the nuptials is a bittersweet concept she reluctantly agrees to. Their path was illuminated with solar lights leading up to their destination. Although she felt hesitant, she didn’t resist when he led her to the shrewd rocky archway. The exquisite aroma of the jasmine flowers clustered along the walls of the entrance lingered about them.

“I read about this in the brochure in my room. It’s exclusive use only to villa guests, so…”

“What?”

“Since the reception is still going, I don’t think we’ll be interrupted.”

“Oh,” a shiver of excitement ran through her. Another chance of getting caught, that’s tantalizing.

“There’s some rod iron torches along these stone walls,” Yong patted down his pocket-less jacket. “No matches.” He pouted.

“I don’t have anything,” Cindy stopped and panic set in.  “I left my bag in my room.”

“Hey, it’s no problem, I got it.” Yong stood close to the torch, and gently blew on the wick. The slightest glow emanated from his pursed lips and ignited a flame.

A surge of excitement rushed through her as she watched. “That’s right, the dragon thing. Gwen did tell me about that.”

“Hope it doesn’t freak you out.” Yong collected her hand and walked to the next one down the way.

“Not at all, I honestly thought she was pulling my leg.”

A surprising sensation ran across her palm. “Hey, your hand is getting hot.”

“Part of the parahuman lighter trick I’m afraid. It’ll go back to normal in a few minutes.”

Exotic Settings for Erotic Stories

The process of plotting out a new story is a rollercoaster from the initial build up, to pure elation, back to a little self-doubt, reconfiguring, and forward to exquisite bliss when it weaves together in a big, beautiful, moving tale. Half the joy for me in creating sagas of romance, intrigue and adventure, is finding and studying new settings for my characters to develop and explore in.

So far, in my 1NS stories alone, we have a beachside castle in Spain, a Halloween ball in Salem Massachusetts, a haunted ghost walk in Savannah Georgia, an underwater hotel room off the coast of Main, and a hidden hotel room inside Niagara Falls. In my newest story that I’ve just completed, and still editing (submitting as soon as edits are done!); Tantric Storm, is a spa inside a volcano, then a hill top rendezvous at the peak!

I love travelling, however, at this stage in my life, married mother of two little ones with a full-time job and too many bills to pay; travelling is a luxury I don’t get to indulge in as often as I would like. To get my fix of exotic locations, my muse leads me to places to examine, and the details take on a life of their own.

Other WIP I have, collecting dust for the time being, is some Druid mythology in an outwardly place, my psychic story starts in a small Ontario town in Canada, and moves to LA, there’s also one, an entire series, outlined in a warm, dry, mystical place. Curious as to what readers would like to see next, I created an online survey about various aspects they would like to see in a story. Everything from genre and length, to specific settings.
