Broken Silence

More than a decade before, when Paul was nothing but a child, fate dealt him a hand he couldn’t win. Silenced him forever for speaking out against the former Alpha, stole his destiny, and robbed him of his place in the pack.

Presley Ginger, a tiny human female, couldn’t have been further from what he expected to walk into the bar and alter his future. But he couldn’t tell her anything about his wolf or his shift. Nothing. Bound by a direct order from the enforcer to keep her in the dark, his need for her would never see the light of day. Then the moon rose above him in the presence of his mate and changed everything.

For years, in the background is where he stayed, unable to find his voice. Until his rainbow-haired mate showed up in the Black Hills—with the answer in her hands.

Broken Silence is #42 in the Black Hills Wolves series!! I was lucky enough to be able to write Paul's story, and anyone who reads #‎BHW knows his tragic past of being muted by his Alpha when he was twelve. I loved loved LOVED getting to be the one to tell his story and share how he found his place in the pack again with his rainbow-haired mate, PG!!!

Isn't the cover dark and just like he's waiting for something?!? Siiigghhhh Fiona Jayde you rock some serious awesomesauce! And a huge thank you to Rebecca Royce for giving me the pretty face on this story and convincing me I really DID have time to write it!! MWAH!!

Excerpt :
   Paul woke screaming.
Well. His version of screaming. A bit different with no tongue. He tried to strangle the noise in his throat by clenching his teeth and it finally worked.
Breath rushed in and out of his lungs and he wiped at his face.
   Wet.
   Wet with blood.
Panic gripped him as he fumbled for the light on his nightstand.
Several things hit the floor before he found the switch.
Wiping his face again, his heart stopped as he looked at his hand.
   Sweat.
His head hit the headboard as he relaxed.
It was only sweat. Thank God.
He counted to a hundred to try to calm his erratic pulse. And then did it again until he could breathe normally.
His future was Hail Mary’d that day. His life was thrown as hard as possible into the wind with who knew what on the other end.
He could have died. If he were human, he probably would have.
   Yet—he’d lived.
Some days he wondered if surviving was a good thing or a bad thing.
Things were better with Drew, the new Alpha—an immeasurable amount better. More than a decade after he was ostracized from the pack, Drew returned to take his rightful place at the head of it. Challenging his father, Drew killed Magnum in an alpha challenge.
   It was quick. Decisive.
The fact someone had been poisoning Magnum for some time played little into the outcome of the fight. Paul had his suspicions, but he said nothing—warned no one.         Magnum’s death proved far quicker than Paul had wanted.
The man who mutilated him should have suffered. He didn’t like having those feelings but they were there. They were there for Magnum and for the five wolves who’d stolen his future.
They were all dead—every one of them. Taken out because they couldn’t be trusted. Killed because they’d decided their hate was worth fighting for.
   They’d been wrong.
   Sometimes….
Sometimes Paul wouldn’t remember they were dead. Sometimes getting stuck in the past was as simple as slipping on an old coat full of holes. The illusion of warmth clung to his foggy brain but he was so cold. His faith in others? Fleeting, so he had a hard time putting his trust in anyone.
   Or friendship.
   Or love.
He shook his head and ran his fingers over his short blond hair, making sure it was still cropped close to his skull.
Short. He always kept his hair short now.
Short enough no one could grab it.
Never again would it be used against him.
Staring at his hands in front of him, he measured their width. Their size was the same as the other wolves in the pack, but his hands didn’t pull the same weight. He was damaged goods. Unable to speak to anyone, he looked at the nightstand to find his only method of communicating. Two things which hadn’t fallen were his notepad and pen he kept with him all the time. So he could write clipped messages to people when he had to communicate.
It got the job done, but the necessity left him even more disconnected. Relaxing his biceps, he let his hands fall to his lap then closed his eyes, as he tried to focus past the nightmare.
The pack had hope again—stronger than ever thanks to the deaths. They’d found unity and faith in their Alpha. Hell, they even found faith in each other, in their pack, first decimated by a madman then wounded by another.
The members of the Black Hills Wolves were coming home. He was happy to be a part of the growth. Happy to help welcome them back. He’d stayed for so many years with the hope of witnessing the resurrection of their pack.
   Theirs.
   Not his.
Never his, because he was separate from them. Lesser. He’d never be Alpha. Sure as hell wasn’t a dominant wolf by any stretch of the word. Barely even a beta with the females of the pack. He was relegated to being an omega. A weakling. Yes they all told him he was needed. Wanted even. They told him omegas made the pack stronger, they helped—but how? No, he didn’t see it.
He shook his head and rubbed it one more time.
The night was so silent all around him.
Where he always stayed. In the silence.
Most days it still felt as if he were free falling toward a black future with nothing to hold onto. Where he’d land, he didn’t know.
All he prayed for each night and every morning? To find when he landed—he wouldn’t be alone.

Hope everyone loves Paul as much as I do!!

Passion. Romance. Danger. Wow.

Moonlight Danger by Tina Donahue

For years, I enjoyed reading shifter romances. The passion. The danger. Wow.

However, it wasn’t until recently that I wrote my own tale, Moonlight Danger. One thing that has always fascinated me about shifters is how they fit into the so-called ‘normal’ world and also with others like themselves.

I saw an incredible amount of conflict, suspense, and romance in the concept and couldn’t wait to put my thoughts down on paper. Thus, Moonlight Danger was born.

Please enjoy the blurb, an excerpt, and teasers for my story.

Moonlight Danger book 5 - Hot Moon Rising series
Thanks to Desiree Holt for inviting me to be a launch author for her great new series Hot Moon Rising. All the books are stand alone, but involve the shifter pack in Moonlight.

My shifters are Nick and Portia. Wow, do they have a story to tell...

Alone for too long, they’ve finally found each other and home.
Now, they’ll have to fight to keep both safe.

Nick Wyatt lost his mate and vowed never to love again. The hurt’s too deep. Portia Danes knows about loss. When her parents were killed, they left her as the only shifter in their hometown. Needing to be with her own kind, she found Moonlight…and Nick.

Nick fights his longing for Portia but can’t resist, coming alive within her loving and lusty embrace.

Heated days and nights follow. Their bond grows and so do a series of strange accidents in Moonlight. Minor at first then increasing in gravity and frequency. When the pack’s suspicions ignite about Portia, Nick must defend her against an unexpected enemy or risk losing her forever.

Excerpt:
“Before I cook our steaks, do you mind if I cool off first?” She already sat on the ground, untying and tossing her boots aside. Her adorable socks followed. She’d painted her toenails deep red and had another flower tat on her ankle.

Nick wanted to taste it, his mouth watering.

“Can you believe it’s so hot already?” She unhooked her overalls straps and unbuttoned each side of the garment near her hips.

“What?”

“It’s hot, don’t you think?”

She leaned back, wiggled out of her overalls, and tossed them aside. Her panties were a scrap of some silky material edged in pink lace. He wouldn’t have expected any other color. “Ah….”

She dropped her tank top on the denim. Her boobs filled her pink bra near to overflowing, the gentle mounds quivering with each movement and breath. Effortlessly, she glided the straps off her arms, unhooked the bra back, and lobbed the garment onto her growing clothes pile.

He stepped forward without meaning to, transfixed by her nipples, a deep rose as he’d guessed, puckered and tight, ready for a man’s mouth.

Portia didn’t flaunt her partial nudity. She appeared far more casual than he as she slipped off her panties. No wait, she’d worn a thong. His skin tingled.

She chucked the underwear on top of her bra and stood. “You must be hot, too. Want to join me? Plenty of room.”

Nick figured she’d gestured to the water, but he couldn’t concentrate on anything except the springy curls between her legs. That delicate pelt was as dark as her other hair. Her cleft and puffy lips pointed the way to paradise. At least for a little while. After that….

He should leave.

She padded to him, taking his hands. “Join me when you’re ready. We have all night. I’m not going anywhere but here.”

Three small moles circled her navel, fascinating him. A light sprinkling of freckles graced her shoulders. Although tall and athletic, she was surprisingly narrow, seeming so delicate.

She had more courage than he did, facing him with unashamed desire and patience.

Nick wanted to make a move but couldn’t quite break free from the past, telling himself he shouldn’t. He deserved to remain alone forever. She kissed his knuckles. His lids slipped down. He ached with need and resistance.

True to her word, she stayed relatively close, slipping into the water, the brief waves lapping her thighs. “Wow. Almost as good as a shower.”

She poured water over her shoulders, breasts, and belly. Her delicate curls trapped the moisture that sparkled in the remaining daylight. Soon, the heavy moon would rain its silvery light on them. If he were still here, which he wouldn’t be.

He edged closer to the bank.

After dampening her neck, she lay on her back, floating, face turned to him.

He didn’t recall taking off his work boots, socks, jeans, or tee. When he wore nothing except his stretchy boxer briefs, he considered what he was doing.

She patted the water, encouragingly. “Hop on.”

“On?”

“In. Always mix those up. Come on, you need to cool off.”

With both of them in there, they’d probably bring the damn stream to a boil. Warning bells rang. Loneliness and lust won. Shutting down his misgivings, Nick peeled off his underwear. He stood above her, naked and fully aroused, letting her get her fill of the man, the beast he was.

The Importance of Location

Buy Remember Me HERE
By Amaleen Ison

When I wrote my newest release, Remember Me, I didn’t pay much attention to location other than details that affected plot: a remote cabin in a forested area, deep snow, and sub-zero temperatures. My main character has amnesia, so I thought I could be vague on specifics. It was only when my editor asked where the story was set that I considered the question for the first time. My initial response was, “Does it matter?”

“Yes,” she said, firmly. “It does.”

And she was right!

I’d created a bizarre hybrid setting, incorporating a fictitious landscape with Artic weather conditions and British buildings and transport. My first person narrator spoke in British English, and perversely, the one thing I knew with certainty was the story was not set in Britain. When I realized what I’d done, I turned a little pink—actually a lot pink.

Thank goodness for editors.

I subsequently spent a great deal of time researching countries that would provide the right terrain, extreme temperatures, annual snow fall, and remote location.

Finally, I settled on Interior Alaska, and so began an edit that changed everything British to American. The remote, thatched stone cottage became a log cabin, oak trees morphed into fir trees, and I downsized the family Landrover to a Ski-Doo. The list of changes went on and on, not to mention the addition of indigenous wildlife and natural phenomenon. If I hadn’t realised the importance of location before, I certainly did after that round of edits.

So after all the effort my editor and I put in to make the setting authentic, you can imagine my delight when I discovered the following review just a few days after Remember Me was published.

“The biggest thing the author did right was in describing the state of Alaska. I live here and the author nailed it. I'm a very hard sell having lived here since I was sixteen, but in her story you'll feel the bitter sting of winter (and it's a unique achy feeling you'll get in few other places).” – Goodreads Review

To celebrate the release of my novella, I’m hosting a Rafflecopter giveaway to win a $20 Amazon gift card and a copy of Remember Me. Sign up below for your chance to win.

Remember Me:
Sera isn’t living. She’s existing—barely. Bedbound by illness, she has no memory of life before the freezing barn she now calls home. A mournful song haunts her dreams and hints at a past not completely buried—one she’s desperate to uncover. Yet Father’s whirlwind visits to draw blood and administer medication don’t provide answers. He only confirms the one thing she already knows; she’s dying.
A lonely death without ever knowing her past seems inevitable until a sudden, mystifying return to health coincides with the arrival of a boy in the opposite out-building. The inextricable pull to the stranger, and the broken memories that storm her mind when he’s near, warn of a history quite different to any she could have imagined. If she’s to uncover the truth she craves, she’ll have to decide whether knowledge of the past is worth forfeiting her second chance at life.

Summer Break Blues

Thank you all for joining me in celebrating the book release of my second young adult urban fantasy, Summer Break Blues. This is the sequel to Senior Year Bites and picks up a few months after it left off with Meg’s graduation from high school.

I thought we could all get into Meg’s head a little more and find out more about her interests when she’s not out saving the world so I sent her and her friends a few questions to fill out.

Tell us a little about yourself
Meg: I’d rather not.

What’s it like being a vampire?
Meg: I don’t know what you’re talking about.

Favorite color?
Meg: Red, er, blue. Definitely blue.

Favorite food?
Meg: Chocolate, I think.

Have you ever been in love?
Meg: I’m like, seventeen. No.

Do you have a crush on anyone?
Meg: Other people are going to read this, right? So, no, though Tad is really cool.

What do you do when you’re not out saving the day?
Meg: I’ve never saved the day. I’m not a superhero, and that only happens in movies. But I used to love sunbathing. I burn to easily now, must be something about getting older. Swimming was fun, never read much before this summer. I like going to movies and hanging out with my friends at Steak and Shake.

Ann, please describe Meg in a few words.
Ann: Creepy. Very very creepy.

Steph, same question.
Steph: Meg’s great. She’s saved all our lives. She’s strong and fast and totally a superhero.

And now for the giveaway:
Leave a comment with a way to contact you and your ebook format preference for a chance to win any Decadent/Bono book including Senior Year Bites and Summer Break Blues. Giveaway will be open for one week (note to editor – feel free to adjust the length the giveaway is open.) Blurb:
Meg managed to survive her senior year of high school as a vampire, and now she’s looking forward to a relaxing summer with her friends before trying to tackle college. Unfortunately, some unfinished business from the previous year rears its ugly head and Meg is forced to deal with the Sidhe who are distinctly unhappy that she killed one of their kind last winter. Then Ann’s parents vanish while they are on their annual summer vacation in Maine and it’s up to Meg and the rest of the gang to come to the rescue. Though she is still trying to figure out who, and what she has become, Meg and her friends feel they are up to the challenge. That is until things really start to fall apart.
