Do you Dream of the Future?

by Jessica E. Subject
In the books I read, as well as those I write, I like to imagine what the future will be like. Will we live in a dystopian future or a utopian one, where no one wants for anything. Or perhaps a dystopian future disguised as a utopian one... Will we finally work together to save our Earth from global warming or be forced to leave and settle on another planet, maybe even a space station? Will we be fighting aliens for our planet, or still be fighting each other? Will human cloning happen? Will robots take over?
All of these are questions that authors and screenwriters have asked themselves. You can see many of these examples in movies and fiction. These are the same questions I ask myself when sitting down to pen a story.
In The Underground series, I imagined a future where a great catastrophe has occurred, wiping out most of the world. In the part of the world where the story is set, a corporation runs society, and tries to not only control who people fall in love with, but also, who’s allowed to procreate. But, the Underground refuses to accept their control. And while the corporation is busy trying to establish a colony on a new planet, the Underground is preparing to fight for their rights back.
Made For Her is a story of love, lies and deceit that takes place at a time when human cloning has been approved for military use. And many of my other stories involve first contact with extraterrestrial life.

Question: What do you think the future will like in one hundred years? What will change and what will be the same?

Never Gonna Let You Go
The Underground book 1
By Jessica E. Subject
Caught in a tangle of lies, Calla Jacobs must sort through the truth to discover where she truly belongs. A biologist for Planet Core, she finds herself ensnared in a web of deceit. Sent to Airondelle, she must work with a team to prepare the newly discovered planet for colonists from Earth. But the mission does not go as she expected. Her former lover, Erik Edwards, shuns her, sending Calla into the arms of Melina Holloway, their commander, for the attention she craves and more. A confrontation among the trio leaves her with a broken heart, and fleeing from the two people she trusted most.
Attempting to break free from the lies that bind her, she discovers Planet Core has deceived everyone. And when she returns to Earth, Calla learns just how far Planet Core’s control reaches.

Excerpt from Never Gonna Let You Go:
Anger pierced every word. “Now, go back to Edwards. Have your happily-ever-after and leave me be.”
Her words stung, yet Calla didn’t believe her. Melina spun away to leave again, but Calla managed to grab a strap on the pack and pulled her off her feet. She stared down at Melina in the grass, satisfied by the look of shock on her face.
“What’s going on? I don’t believe you only wanted sex.”
“Calla, it’s something you don’t want to be involved in.” Her hard glare reflected her tone. “I suggest you leave Planet Core when you get back to Earth.”
What did PC have to do with any of this? She stared down at her commander. “Unlike you, they’ve been nothing but good to me. I have no reason to leave them.”
Melina pushed to her feet and brushed off her pants. “Well then, you can be the boss’ pet. Don’t doubt for one second that Malock won’t start using you toseduce everyone they want out of the program since I’m not going back.”
Calla stood there, baffled. Did PC really work that way? “But…. I would never do that to Erik.” Wait, had she already resolved to let him back in her life?“You’d be surprised what you’d do for the one you love.” Melina bowed her head and rushed away from her.

I think the tides will rise, humans will adapt by genetically engineering gills to breathe under water. You'll have under sea cities and above the sea floating cities but the last few humans who are considered pure and untainted.

^_^ I've already started a story where it's roughly 5k years ahead. The Earth and it's inhabitants had been decimated by the pushing of a button (Nuclear holocaust). The survivors are the races of Myth, they teach the humans (what's left of them) how to live, grow, hunt and produce the things they need. ^_^ I'm roughly 30k into at the moment.
