Superheroes + Romance = Win!…

Available HERE

By Kimberly Quinton

Have any of you NOT seen The Avengers? Seriously? It has everything a romance reader could want, in my opinion. There’s studly heroes—of course. Iron Man and Captain America lead a team of characters into a battle to defend the earth from alien invaders. It’s full of danger, sexual tension (hello Black Widow and…everyone) and protecting loved ones from harm, finding one’s strength and fighting inner demons that challenge the desire to do the right thing. Ah yes, superhero movies like The Avengers push all the right buttons and I’m loving that there will be more!

Not to mention my teen crush on Robert Downey, Jr. has resurfaced and I once again have pictures of him posted on my “wall”.  And Avengers is not the only superhero franchise that is doing right. X-Men has it all too; Angst, sexy alpha Wolverine, new adult and coming of age turmoil, fighting against internal and external evil and tragic love gained and lost. I could go on, so is it any question why I would choose to write a superhero romance?

Writing Hero Worship was one of the most fun writing experiences I’ve had. I knew I wanted to write a pissed off, fallen-from-grace superhero forced back into working for the people who had exiled him. That was all I started with and thankfully Caroline, my heroine, came into focus quickly from the start. She sneaks under Cole’s bitter shell and reminds him that he does have a reason to be the hero once again.

Do you have a favorite superhero character, book or movie?

Yes or No to Valentine’s Day?

By Kimberly Quinton

Have you made Valentine’s Day plans? Are you going for the traditional romantic date or are you doing something different? Maybe a weekend adventure or a surprise evening for your special someone? I love holidays and am having so much fun plotting my Holiday Hearts series. Christmas has it’s own magic that surrounds the season, so it was easy to get into the romance and emotion when writing HerWish Before Christmas. Valentine’s Day is unique and presented it’s own challenges when I wrote Cupid’s Promise.

I started the book knowing who the main characters were and that the story would revolve around a lingerie store and Lena would have to put Marcus through a series of romance related tests. Everything else fell into place while I was pantsing my way through it.

When Lena and Marcus agree to work together, he claims to know exactly what women want when it comes to romance and that figuring it out is easy. Of course, Lena has to try to prove him wrong, but her tests backfire on her.

I had so much fun thinking about what I would put them through as they grew into a couple. Marcus does pretty well, he wasn’t joking when he said he knew how to woo a woman. Especially in what I consider the “light romance” activities, like picking a bouquet of flowers or cooking a romantic meal. But Lena pushes him and he eventually has to open up to genuine emotion instead of keeping his feeling superficial and easily controlled.

I have to confess, my husband and I have been married for almost eighteen years and we don’t really celebrate Valentine’s Day. But I love a good date story and I’m a sucker for big romantic gestures. My Dear Hubby won me over when he sang to me on my eighteenth birthday! And that’s a part of what I put in Lena’s personality—the view that romance isn’t about what you give, it’s about the intent and the sincerity of the gesture. If what you’re doing is from the heart and the intent is to give your loved one pleasure or show your love—it’s romantic. Unless it’s a fatal attraction kind of thing but that’s a blog for a different day!

What I would love to know is what do you consider a romantic date for Valentine’s Day? Or are you anti-Valentine’s? I’ve got a copy of HerWish Before Christmas, Holiday Hearts #1 for one lucky commenter.

Valentine’s Day Inspiration!

Available HERE

Cupid’s Promise
Holiday Hearts – Book 2

What images do you see when you think of Valentine’s Day? I see chocolate and hearts—first thing. And then red roses, pink carnations, and cute crafts (I have kids…) but I don’t think jewelry. *Note-to-self, need to speak to the DH about that!

Lena Ridgeway, the romance-crazed heroine of Cupid’s Promise is on a mission to remind the people of Laurel Cove that Valentine’s is not about chocolate and teddy bears, but about romance.

Lena’s going to have a hard time convincing Marcus Blackwell, the no-nonsense, co-owner of Cupid’s Secret, that there can be more to Valentine’s than a bump in retail income from pushing hearts and roses. But, challenging him to participate in the store’s week of activities guaranteed to help customer’s enhance the romance in their lives, gives her more than she bargained for.

With the help of her grandmother’s spirit pushing her to listen to her heart, Lena goes all out to show Marcus that she’s his Valentine, but will his cynical view of romance and love cause him to break her heart instead?

It’s no secret that I love holidays like Christmas and Valentine’s Day—I have so many special memories from celebrating them as a child and just had to write stories around them.

Do you have a favorite Valentine memory or tradition? Perhaps a special gift from the love or you life?

Blurb:

Shot through the heart...
Cupid's Secret promises to set Laurel Cove on its ear with a sexy new boutique that answers what a woman desires. When the owner ends up in the hospital it's up to Lena Ridgeway to make sure this heart-stopping opening goes off without a hitch, but she finds her every idea challenged by a no-nonsense businessman.

Capitalizing on a feeling...
Marcus Blackwell is a bottom-line kind of guy and he knows that sex and hearts sell. When he arrives to find his latest venture in chaos, his partner injured, and a model-turned-manager in charge, he rolls up his sleeves and dives in. If only he could keep his mind-and hands - off the sultry model with her whimsical faith in a fake holiday.

Can't fight this fortune...
Lena can't help teasing the straight-laced, business-only boss who keeps sneaking into her dreams. One passionate kiss has her believing he may be the one she's waited for all her life, but she'll need every arrow in Cupid's arsenal to prove she is his true Valentine....
Excerpt:

“You’re firing me because I didn’t sell enough chocolate?” Lena had never been fired before. She shouldn’t be so pissed. It wasn’t like she had wanted to be a clerk in the first place.
“No. I’m letting you know your obligation to your friend is fulfilled. We have a manager who can take over—one who’s interested in the bottom line and ready to do what it takes to make this store a success—therefore, you no longer need to inconvenience yourself with filling in.” If he could have been more condescending, she wasn’t sure how.
“But who will coordinate the seminars and special guests we have coming in next week? Julie can’t run the store and do that, too.” Why was she arguing? If the part owner said he didn’t need her, then he didn’t need her. She could get to her planned reunion with James.
“I’ll be coordinating the week of activities and specials. Like I said, everything is under control and you are free to go.” He began the closing routine as if there was no need for further discussion. She was, for the first time she could remember, speechless.
Lena paced through the shop to the florist counter where her purse was secured in a cabinet. Pulling the over-sized boho bag out, she bit her tongue before saying anything else. She had known her time there was temporary while they found other staff, but she had enjoyed the work and done well, despite what Marcus thought. Maybe she should take his dismissal as a sign to move on.
Turning, she almost swallowed her sore tongue. Holy heck. Boss from hell had loosened his tie and unbuttoned his collar. Suddenly Mr. Tight Ass looked more bedroom than boardroom. He ran a hand over his face, pinched the bridge of his nose for a breath, then smoothed through his just-longer-than-short locks. The natural wave kept the tousled-yet-put-together style with ease. Transfixed, she couldn’t look away as his long fingers deftly and purposefully unbuttoned one sleeve and then the other before rolling them up to reveal the sun-kissed color of his hands also extended up strong forearms. Her lips closed around the soft pant of her breath. Her thoughts really needed to start flowing in a different direction.
His gaze caught hers and heat singed her cheeks at his cocky half-grin. “You don’t need to help close up. I can manage.”
Clearing her throat, she wiped at the handprint her heated skin had left on the glass counter. “Sure thing.” I need to get out of here before I do something stupid.

Merry Christmas to Me—Her Wish Before Christmas

By Kimberly Quinton

I love Christmas—as in I would stalk St. Nick and keep my tree and lights up all year—love Christmas. So it’s perfect that my first published book is a sweet holiday romance. I can’t think of a better Christmas present. I had the most fun writing Her Wish Before Christmas and now that we are in the holiday season I’m so thrilled to be able to share it.

When I was growing up, Christmas was always the best holiday around my house. It wasn’t a big family affair with lots of people, but it was the holiday my parents went all out for. Most of our traditions revolve around food--hey, we’re southern, everything revolves around food—but I remember the ornaments on the tree were the same ones every year, and putting them up became the ritual I cherished the most. We would cover the tree in decorations that my brothers and I made in elementary school, cross-stitched sayings, paper cut-outs, glass-beaded bells that looked like beautiful earrings, and whatever new style we just had to have for that year. They were packed away to be put back up the next year and it became a patchwork full of little snippets of our lives.

Never was it the stylish, coordinated center piece that you’d see in magazines, but I think that’s what made it so special.

The other home decorations had to be the same too, from the tree skirt to the white porcelain tabletop Christmas tree to the stockings with bells on them so my parents could hear us checking them out in the middle of the night. Much of this has been passed to me to keep the tradition alive for my children and I still get all sentimental when I decorate every Christmas. Each piece that survived the years brings back memories from my childhood and the years between then and now, since I never miss a Christmas with my folks if I can help it.

“Are you the one leaving bloody footprints in the store? Your grandmother’s going to have a heart attack.” The man stared down at her, holding the door open with one arm, the lamp base in the other. He rested the plastic appendage against the doorframe and took a step closer, his face clear in the light of the workroom.
“Connor?”
“Let me have a look.” He knelt and grabbed her foot and held on tight when she tried to tug it back.
“Ouch.” She pulled her foot away from his prodding.
“Sorry. Cut’s not too deep. A Band-Aid and some Neosporin is all you need.”
Connor O’Rourke? The Connor O’Rourke? Twelve years hadn’t changed him much. Except he turned into a man. And one fine man at that.
Jesus, did he grow after college? His arms and chest sure had.
Heat blazed a fire across her cheeks when her roaming gaze met his. Same cocky grin. Embarrassment couldn’t stop her from comparing this Connor with the then Connor. His hair was cut shorter, but the rich chestnut color hadn’t dulled. No hint of gray at the temples, no balding either. So that night of drunken cursing for him to grow fat and ugly didn’t take. Figures. What’s the use of gypsy blood if my curses don’t work?
“I didn’t know you were in town,” she asked, proud she had kept the hysterical out of her voice.
“I wasn’t until this week. I’m setting up a practice at the new clinic down the street.” He stood and helped her up from the floor.
Connor F’ing O’Rourke back in town and looking too delicious by half. She licked her lips and swallowed at the sudden dryness in her mouth. The hurt and anger returned with a swift jab to her heart rivaling the sting of glass in her foot. The feelings so fresh, like she was eighteen again and waiting for the proposal that never came. Don’t go there. You’re over him.
