In His Own Words...Interview with Xavior Oceanus

By LaVerne Thompson

*Sits down at his computer and cracks his knuckles* Guess I better get this over with. My creator wanted me to write a little article about myself. Her wish is my command. Or so I let her think. *snickers* Let me tell you I’m the one who ran that story. She wrote what I told her too. Hell, I yelled in her ear enough times that she made the changes to MY story I felt necessary. Any way about me.

Let’s see. First of all my name is Xavior Oceanus, some people call me Xav. I’m one of the children, a race of beings who dwell deep within the seas. I’m also a son of Poseidon and his heir. The thing is to become king of the waves and claim the Sea Throne, I must first find my bride and place her on there. The throne would only accept the female meant to be my bride. That’s also the only way I get to become king. Queen get’s crowned first.

I better explain that I’ve already met this person, but ah, I’m not sure who she is. You see my people, the children, age until puberty then we basically stop aging until we meet our brides and the females their mates. Once that happens some sort of chemistry goes into effect and kick starts the aging process and then it stops once we reach our prime. To humans we’d only appear to be in our mid to late twenties. In reality, most of us are over two hundred years old. Nah, we’re not immortal, just children of a god and really long lived.  The real kicker is we can only orgasm with our brides/mates. So you can imagine how much research we do to find this person. *grins*

I been aging for awhile now but I’ve hit prime, however, unlike others of my kind who usually know who their brides or mates are by now, I don’t.  To make it worse, as heir I have a finite amount of time to find my bride, the clock is seriously ticking. You see if I don’t find her by next moon rising I will lose my right to the Sea Throne. Then my people would have to wait at least another 100 years for one who can claim it. My people need a king now. We are at war with the denizens of the dark depths and only a king can put a stop to it. My people don’t have two months much less years.

Come join me under the sea. Or are you afraid of the waves?

The Sea and Thee

by LaVerne Thompson

I took my girls to the beach for a few days of rest and relaxation before they disappear for their internships this summer and before my oldest goes off to college orientation and then off to college. Well the few days turned out to be anything but relaxing.

While we were there the weather was absolutely beautiful, hot but with a breeze on the beach to cool you off perfectly. But the first full day on the beach, about halfway through our fun in the sun, we heard the shrill whistle of the lifeguard. I sat up as did my girls and we looked toward the water. At first we couldn’t see what the fuss was about and glanced back at the lifeguard who was frantically waving her arms for the swimmers to come back in. That whistle and those hand motions will become commonplace over the course of our stay, along with the cries of HELP HELP WE NEED HELP OVER HERE! In two days we witnessed 4 separate rescues. One involved a father and his 5 year old, and another rescue required 4 lifeguards to jump into the water.

The scary thing was these folks didn’t get caught in riptides, oh no, but the illusion of safety that sandbars out in the water place on our psyche. When swimming we’ve always been told 2 things that stuck with me: check to see if anyone else is as far out in the water as you are, and the second turned out to be the most important, check your distance from shore. If you can’t swim it don’t do it.

There was a sandbar pretty far out into the water so if you were in certain areas you could walk from the beach right out into what should have been deep water, but instead was only waist high. Unfortunately in some areas that sandbar dropped suddenly and the inexperienced found themselves literally in way over their heads.

So now I need a vacation to get over the last one. Perhaps back to the ocean albeit a different place. But no matter the body of water I will respect the sea.

Sea Bride- Children of The Waves

For 200 some years Xavior, a child of the waves, has searched the seven depths for his bride only to find her on land. How could a landwalker be his Queen, the one destined to stop the wars among the sea tribes? But one touch and he knew he'd defy Poseidon himself to make her his.

Cori Daniels hated the water; she'd been on board the luxury ocean liner for 2 days and hadn't left her cabin. But when she finally ventured on deck she met a man who looked like a sea god and tempted her like no other. But he tempted her to follow him into the sea.

Holiday Traditions

by LaVerne Thompson writing as Ursula Sinclair

This is a very special time of the year filled with many different traditions. Most of which celebrate family and friends. Well in my house we’ve got a few Christmas traditions and I’d like to share some of our favorites with you.

This one was passed from my mother to me and from me to my girls. On Christmas Eve, after a nice hot shower, my kids find brand new Christmas PJs on their beds. Of course, over the years the types of PJs have changed from Onesie to pants and tops from Aerie or Pink. But it’s still a lot of fun for them to find. Afterwards we’d go downstairs and sit by the Christmas tree. If it’s cold out, we’ll have the fireplace going and my girls will sit on either side of me while I read ‘Twas The Night Before Christmas. When they were little I read it to them, when they were able to read they’d take turns reading to me, now that they’re teens they’re back to having me read it to them. Funny how we’ve come full circle.

But one of our favorite traditions is our Christmas journal. When my oldest was five her teacher gave all the students a small journal. She told them about her family holiday tradition, which we’ve adopted. This is a special journal that’s kept with the Christmas things, and only taken out with the decorations and placed under the tree. We forget about it until Christmas morning. After all the presents are opened it’s the last thing under the tree.

I sit down, open up the journal, and write about the things my girls got for Christmas. It’s strange when you read about some of these things years later, how much it tells you about your children and yourself. I list the big family gifts too, but I also write about the high points of the past year, both personal to our family or larger world events that affect us all. Then we all take turns during the day reading about our Christmas’ past. It paints a clear picture of our lives, how far we’ve come, and how far we still have to go.

My daughters a few years ago began another version of this. Instead of keeping a journal of the years past they write a future note to themselves and pack it away. They write about their hopes, fears, expectations for the coming year, and then they take it out and read it the following Christmas. Usually they smile or laugh while reading these notes to themselves. I love holiday traditions.Since it's so close to Christmas, I will give away a pdf download of White Wedding to a randomly picked commenter. Please leave your email in your comment so I can contact you!
