Decadent took a chance on me a few years ago and with my suspense story – Chosen. It’s not an erotic romance. It’s light on the romance and heavy on the suspense and if you don’t like dark, violent stories, then stop reading now. If you do like twisted tales and strong heroines, then you might like Chosen.

I wrote it long before the spate of true life stories emerged of women who’ve been kidnapped and held in secrecy for weeks, months, years. I remember my husband saying to me that he didn’t think my story was realistic and sadly, it turned out to be all too possible. Not the time for ‘I told you so’.

Kate is just an ordinary young woman who finds herself caught up in a nightmare after she opens the door to a stranger. Careful as she is, she’s not careful enough and I must admit that I now put the chain on the door before I open it. I wish there weren’t guys like Jack out there, but there are.

Shortly after I’d finished the story, I had a visit from the police who wanted to show me the photo of a necklace they’d found in a car. Was it mine? No. But the car once had been. I sold it a year earlier. It was put into an auction and the guy who bought it murdered a young woman in the next town. The necklace hadn’t been hers and the police were concerned there might have been another murder victim. I never did learn if there was.

My story has a happy ending. I don’t read or write stories that leave me feeling depressed! Kate is a survivor. I hope I’d be as brave as her.
