Pucker up for some tasty treats! St. Pat’s Cocktail recipes from Bell’s

By JoAnne Kenrick

Spring is in the air, kinda. Well, not quite. It should be, though. For goodness sakes, it’s March!
Due to what feels like an incredibly long, drawn out Winter, I hit up Shaun from Bell’s Irish Pub, and gathered some tasty recipes to help put a spring back in our step.
Sweet Irish Kiss is sure to raise the spirits with its sweet n minty take on the more common cocktail, Irish Kiss. In a cocktail glass… Mix equal parts of coffee liqueur and Irish cream then pour over ice.
Top with whipped cream. Sprinkle with chocolate shavings. Decorate with mint leaf.

Shamrocked is definitely a strong drink with a kick. Pucker up for this one, because you’ll be skipping all the way through the St Pat’s parade with this in ya belly. In a shot glass… Mix equal parts of Irish cream, whiskey, and melon liqueur over ice.

Threesome Sweetness is in chase Shamrocked isn’t heat enough for you. Neck this hottie and feel the burn. Winter? What Winter!? *hiccup* In a shot glass… One shot each of the following: Irish Cream, Brandy, Tequila liqueur. Swirl ingredients together.

Hot Winter Kiss is for the traditionalist who’d rather snuggle up and enjoy the cozy Winter weather. Here’s a fireplace perfect drink just for you. In your favorite mug… Fill a mug three quarters full with hot, black coffee. Add one shot of Irish cream and one shot of coffee liqueur. Stir. Top with whipped cream and sprinkle with chocolate shavings.

For more tasty treats… hit up the Irish Kisses bestselling series.

Outback Dirty

by Eva Lefoy

Readers,

When I first heard about the Calendar Men series, I knew I had to find out more.  Who are these hunks? What’s the series all about? To get answers, I interviewed JoAnne Kenrick, the author of the Mr. January, and her book, Outback Dirty.

What gave you the initial idea for the story?
When I subbed the Calendar Men series, my story for the series was proposed as a doctor in Las Vegas who gets roped into posing for the calendar and falls for the photographer. However, as the series took shape, the premise for the calendar setting was changed somewhat and the focus became a charity calendar for the fictional Hero Family Fund. We had to submit a synopsis before writing the story. From there, I can’t tell you how it happened. It just did. I think a little Outback Magic happened during the day I wrote the synopsis.

Ah yes. I see a little magic does happen in Australia. Tell us more about the area where the story takes place. Chris's ranch sounds wonderful. A little hot. A little sticky, Way dry. But yet... romantic. What's your experience of the place?

I’ve only visited Chris’ melon plantation in the Northern Territory in my imagination, but I have lived in New South Wales for a spell. ‘A little hot’ is definitely an understatement. Darn it does get stinking hot. And very dry. But the people are friendly and laid back, and the vast space can be beautiful yet also overwhelming and intimidating. Life is just more relaxed there, and the majority focus is on enjoying life and family and friends.

Calendar Men. Chris is Mr. January and from his description he seems born to model - preferably naked. What's a good looking guy like him doing out with the skinks? Does he miss the camera at all?

Chris is sexy as heck, and because he works the land, is well built. But he has never been one to strut his swag and boast his good looks. He’s not even aware of how sexy he is, not really. The one-time gig as a model was to help the charity calendar since his dad died during military service. So no, he absolutely does not miss being in front of the camera. He’s a dirt and beer man all the way! It took inheriting a melon plantation in Pine Creek for him to figure that out.

The outback isn't Janine's favorite spot! But deep down, she's a country girl. How does she come to terms with her unwanted heritage during the story? After all, she has to get Outback Dirty to get her man!

With a man like Chris around, I think even I would come to terms with living in the outback! Janine is very much like me in that my biggest problem, and my only problem, about living in Australia was the spiders and snakes. After six months of checking the bed before getting in every night, and looking in shoes before putting them on, well, it becomes routine and normal.

I only ever saw one redback spider while I lived in Oz. Well, there were three actually. And of all places, it was beneath the swing seat my toddler daughter had been using for weeks previously before we noticed. Can you say EEP?! Yeah, that freaked me out…a lot. There’s a lot of me in Janine. I can squeal with the best of ‘em.

Aboriginal societies and shamanism/spirituality. You include a little bit of that in the story and it works for the characters. How does it help bring them together and do you think it's possible that outback magic happens?

Absolutely. A lot of plants have been proven to have medicinal qualities, and I’m a firm believer that prayer and positive thinking works.  And Uncle Sam, the spiritual matchmaker of the story, has much wisdom that has been passed down to him and from his own experiences. He knows exactly what’s needed for them to be together. A heart needs to be healed, and deep routed pain needs to be released. With a little bit of spiritual counseling, a touch of outback magic, and a lot of faith, Uncle Sam does his best to bring these lovers together.

Chris and Janine heat up the pages with their mutual lust. What does Chris like most about Janine's body? What does Janine like most about Chris'?

Chris loves it when Janine wears her serious business suits, because no one would ever tell what a curvy and sexy body she has hiding under her clothes. And usually red lacy underwear.  She may give off this power woman attitude, but he knows she’s a hot vixen who only has to show a sneak of a red bra strap and his pants get twisted and his heart skips a beat. As for Chris, Janine is hot for him…so hot. She still has the January page from the calendar, when he posed bared chested and wet. One glance at that shot and she’s just as wet. With his hard muscles, his piercing stare, and his long hair….whoa, I can sense her drooling as I type. Or maybe that’s me? He’s one tough man, but he’s a softy at heart.

Leo and Dingo - any future books there?

It’s certainly possible. Darn them. I didn’t mean to write a secondary romance plot, but Dingo and Leo’s mini subplot just happened. And they are the two most unlikely people you’d expect to be attracted to each other. Yet they insisted. Over and over. So eventually, after several rewrites of the scenes they were in, I gave in and gave them what they wanted. Each other. And suddenly, the whole picture of Outback Dirty felt right.

And I agree! Here’s more on the upcoming books, and I hope you enjoy Outback Dirty!
Eva

Happy 40th to me…Help Me Celebrate?

Yeah, it has happened. I am now 40. SHRIEK! I could sit here and whine about a wasted life, or look back on good times and do all that soppy stuff. But we all know that’s not who I am. So I say bugger to all that. It’s time to crack open the champers and simply celebrate the day.
I never was one to keep my happies to myself, so I’m celebrating turning the big four-O by giving my readers some prizes to thank them for giving my work a go, and for letting the world know when they loved…or hated…my books.

So, it’s pretty simple. Fill out the Rafflecopter for a chance to win some fab prizes.

Kudos out to ReVamped Designs. She did an AWESOME job at designing the lovely SEAL THE DEAL inspired jewelry set. Seal the Deal was my favorite out of all my 2013 releases, and has recived some pretty darn awesome reviews. If you’ve not read it yet, and you enjoy paranormal romance and the 1Night Stand series, I totes suggest you go pick that up today!

I had TWO Seal the Deal jewelry sets made up; one for me, and one for a lucky reader. Consider the set a highly limited edition! And the quality of her work is outstanding. I am just in love with them. The photos do not do them justice. The beads really shimmer in the light. Very pretty. And very summery.

Sealing the Selkie Deal

Seal the Deal available HERE

Seal the Deal is my first step into not only the selkie world, but also it’s my first ever shifter story.

My biggest concern going into this story was that I’d never be able to get the attention to shifter detail just right. I spent weeks cooing and awing at seal You Tube clips, and studying up on Port St. Mary where the story is set.  I took long walks along the coastline with a tour guide on You Tube, and took virtual drives thanks to Google Maps. While it’s true I’ve never stepped foot on any of the British Isles, thanks to all the wonderful people who have taken the time to upload videos of their home town, I feel as if I have. From how to talk Manx to weather updates and fishing talks, I have never been so well studied in a story before, nor so engaged. From start to finish, I lived for my selkies and the little community I had created on Port St. Mary.

I’m working on book two now, and already feel as if I’m right back in Port St. Mary.
When a shifter book works, for me, it’s always  been because the author created characters who are one hundred percent human, but  embodied the characteristics of their animal spirit.

So how about I give you a little taste of Seal the Deal with a scene from the opening chapter.
Soft cotton towels against his whiskers, the warm touch of the sun on his shoulders as he worked the farm, tasty homemade soup tangy on his tongue. Soft flesh of a woman beneath him. Oh, to be admired for his manliness rather than his cutesy seal features and bubble-blowing talents. Fragmented recollections of the little things were all that had survived years of watching the shoreline.
Tensing, he pulled his attention to how much he needed legs again. Long legs. Long, running legs. Resting legs…. And feet! Oh, to walk again.
Shivers wracked his body, flippers quaking hard, fast. Sharp stabbing pain seared him, pins and needles prickling every inch. Darkness closed around him. His tensed muscles turned to mush, and his pounding heart eased. And then, nothing but darkness.
Black-and-clear vision returned, but blurred. A seagull squawked above. Focusing on the bird in flight, Finn’s sight sharpened and colorized.
He rubbed his eyes.
The pads of his fingers were hard against his skin. Fingers? He sat, willing digits and toes to wiggle. Blinking, he pinched his soft, warm cheeks. Pulling at the skin, he stretched his mouth into a wide smile and clamped his fingers between his sharp teeth. Ouch. Had the plan really worked? Was he staring at limbs? Were they really a part of him? Was he human again? To be sure his mind wasn’t playing tricks, he dragged his feet along the wet sand and waved an arm. Fantastic. Then he kicked the air. Delighted with the certainty, laughter roared from deep within.
No time for celebrations. To make his reprieve from the ocean stick, Finn had to find his soul mate. Fast. His father had promised to be ready for this night. God, he prayed he would be. Finn believed in his father’s convictions—he always came through on promises.
The February air bit his naked bottom and sent shudders racing through him. Covering his groin with his shed sealskin—in case he crossed paths with ramblers or fishermen, both of whom frequented the area—he hopped from one rock to the next, navigating the beach. He then raced through the overgrown meadows, focused on each foot landing on ground, the damp, rich green grass poking between his toes, tickling them. Determination fired him up. Alive with an electric buzz he had never experienced before, he ran. And ran.

Vampire FactFile

Just the facts, with JoAnne Kenrick

Here's my vampire fact file:

They must be super sexy. Of course that's rule number one. Those fugly vampires belong in zombie movies, instead. Vampires are supposed to have us lusting after them. So there!

Must be dressed in dark and brooding attire. Well, duh! We need some mystery out of vampires, right? And we want to 'pretend' we're afraid of them. Could you imagine cowering from a vampire dressed in Bermuda shorts and flowery shirt? Would feel kinda odd...and he would most likely fit into the fugly vampire tag.

He must believe in eternal love,. When he finds his one true love, he'll do anything he can to hold onto her. Including biting her ;) That's the best part, right?

And of course they can read minds. How else are they going to know you find them incredibly sexy and want them to bite you?

They can also can glamour you. Although why they'd need to, I don't know. Can I feed from you, and make made passionate love with you...erm, not like I'm going to be saying no in a hurry. Of course, we can pretend they can glamour us. It makes us feel less like a vampire lush.

They sleep in luxurious silk bedsheets and huge king bed. No. Not dirt in coffins. Again, that comes under fugly vampires...and we're not talking about them. They're huddled up in the sewers somewhere, eating rats!

Let's not forget, should we have enough of them, we can kill them with steak. No. not stake. Steak. Check this recipe out, sure to kill a vamp! Pot Roast ala 'kill that vampire' – use holy water verses stock. Add plenty of garlic. And serve with red wine over candle light. The wine and candles don't make a difference, it just makes the death scene more tasteful.
Of course, a stake will work, too. But those are usually saved for those fuglies.

They're rather batty. But we love 'em for it!

Dracula's Kiss, a Night Owl Romance TOP PICK!

Cathela's Office Halloween Ball is a complete bust. She spills out of her Dracula's Bride costume, and her vamp fetish chases away her boyfriend. Only redeeming feature to the night? Necking multiple shots of Dracula's Kiss--a lush Black Cherry Vodka cocktail--and an interlude with a gorgeous man dressed Gary Oldman style.

No one comes close to satisfying Alec Murray's needs until he meets Cathela during some lame-ass party for bankers. One taste of her blood, sweet yet darkly dangerous, he knows she's perfect for him.

A night of goth bondage is planned for one. For the other, a night of sexual control is a must. A perfect fit. Alec is compelled to reveal his true nature but can their relationship survive his dark secret?

Zombies, Vampires...and Broken Arms!

On the 27th of September, I joined Literal-Addiction-Paranormal-Book-Club and Book Monster Reviews for a joint event to help get the word out about When A Mullo Loves A Woman and Sweet Irish Kiss. Little did I know, that chat would turn into the gate way to me overcoming my irrational fear of...zombies. I have no  idea how it happened. One minute we were howling with laughter about a kilt wearing vampire donning a leaf-blower and Aquanet for his only protection against zombies, and the next...zombies!? Me and my big mouth; I should keep my fears to myself in the future.
The conversion quickly moved to a suggestion that I write said story of our landscaping vampire as therapy, and because the story was hilarious. It sounded like a hoot, and I had four weeks before Halloween. I could it. So I jumped at the chance.
But life can be crazy, and mean. Just when you think you've got it all mapped out, your husband goes and fractures an arm and your daughter has an accident at school, almost doing herself some serious injury, too.
With all that going on, I was running out of time to write our vampire verses zombie story. But, somehow, I managed to get it all done. Miracles never cease. It must have been meant to be.
And am I still dog-frightened of zombies? Well..I watched a full episode of the Walking Dead to help get in the 'zone'. It didn't give me nightmares, this time, but I did have a cushion close by! I'd say that was a small step forward. Okay. A tiny step forward. But it's a start.

Halloween has been and gone. I know. But monster movies and halloween specials still haunt our TV program guide. And so...I thought you may like the link to enjoy the spoofy vampire verses zombie story I wrote for Literal-Addiction-Paranormal-Book-Club.

It's spoofy, be warned! And it's FREE!

Be Stihl My Unbeating Heart by JoAnne Kenrick
Leaf blower in tow, and his secret weapon at the ready, Archie focuses on getting back to his damsel in distress at all costs. But zombies, while slow, are tenacious, and it just might cost him an arm and a leg.
Can Archie battle his way through zombieland and save his lady love before the sun comes out to play again? Will Aquanet sufficiently hold his hair in place so he can maintain his hero good looks til the end of our tale? Will we ever discover if he’s a true Scotsman?...erm, will he sufficiently use his head for something other than zombie food?
Available to read online via Scribd, or as a PDF download. If you hit the 'mobile' selection in Scribd, and you have your reader plugged in, it will send the story to your reader.

And talking of vampires...have you been bitten by Dracula's Kiss yet? My latest Decadent Publishing release is available in most ebook stores.

Let's get factual...about fiction...with When A Mullo Loves A Woman

Hello, all you blog readers in search of some decadence. I'm glad you decided to come on over to have a read. Because for this week's Just The Facts Friday, I'm dishing some secrets about Mullo and answering some commonly asked questions.

Are you ready? Okay! Let's go.

ONE: WAMLAW (When A Mullo Loves A Woman) is the 'Read for a Cure' book over at Decadent Publishing. This means that all publisher profits from the sale of WAMLAW, through April, are to go to the American Cancer Society. How cool is that? You can grab yourself a paranormal romance mystery dubbed as winning and surprising by one of the top romance review sites (The Romance Reviews)...AND make a contribution to a fantastic cause...just by picking up my book. Thank you Decadent! Be quick, AND GRAB IT TODAY! April is almost over – available in Kindle, Sony, Nook, All Romance... and many more! Just search for When A Mullo Loves A Woman, in the store of your choice, and it comes right up.
More buy links over on my website www.joannekenrick.com

TWO: Yes, WAMLAW is actually an ancient gypsy legend of the undead, and still very much so feared in the gypsy community. No, there are no other romance books (that I am aware of) that focus on the myth of the Mullo. Although, there are vampire romance books that mention the myth. But they focus more on the blood-sucking vampire aspect of it.

THREE: The Rainbow Bar, where Pearl and her 'Scooby Gang' hang out, is based on my old haunt in Rhyl, North Wales; The Bistro. It was a place of sticky carpets, cheap student beer, and salmon pink walls. And it was a second home to me during my college years, although I never did meet a sexy Mullo in there. Bummer! It was the venue for many cool bands and new Years Eve parties, though, and was recently used as a backdrop for the making of a movie about The Alarm. Yes, Rhyl is the hometown of them, too. Rhyl is kinda a hub for rock music. Or it used to be. Not so much anymore. The DJ's playlist consisted of such bands like Nirvana, Sisters of Mercy, Prodigy, Poison, Bon Jovi...yes a big ol' mix of rock, goth n metal. I had written that 'alternative club' feel into The Rainbow Bar, but it was suggested (wisely) by my editor that I should pick out more modern tunes that fit the characters better. So The Doors and The Police were replaced with Katy Perry and Lady Gaga. Not a bar I would hang out in, but it's perfect for Celeste, Pearl's roomy and best friend.

FOUR: I often get asked if WAMLAW is an Urban Fantasy, because I named the series after the main character. The answer to that would be no, it is definitely a paranormal romance with strong mystery elements. And when you read book two, you'll connect the dots as to why I named the series Pearl Kizzy.

FIVE: When a Mullo Loves A Woman originated from a short story I had written while doing freelance non-fiction work for glossy mags. It had quite a different ending, but thanks to Dracula and discovering the Mullo myth, a new story was born...one with a much better conclusion.

SIX: I am working on Mullo book two, but it's taking much longer than expected because Adam is being a real pain in the ****! Seriously, he has bad attitude and won't play nice. And two characters from the first book have returned, he's not 'dealing' well.

SEVEN: 'When A Mullo Loves A Woman' was written with the title 'Mother of Pearl' in mind – I was aspiring to be the next Virginia Andrews. I guess my style and voice had different ideas. But you can still sense that she was my inspiration, in the sidelines. VA was the reason I thrashed out short stories on my little typewriter, back in the day.

EIGHT: Pull up a chair, and let's talk yummy drinks. Yummy men are good, but so are delicious cocktails. And, in WAMLAW, my love for mixing up the liquids comes out in the form of Pearl and Celeste kidding around about Mullo Mojo being a cocktail (really, it's an amulet to ward off evil spirits) – well, I created that cocktail. It's green, and yummy. Yes, tried and tested. You can grab the recipe from http://mullomojo.blogspot.com – Let me know how you get on with it if you mix it up with a Mullo Mojo!

NINE: I've written a rough blurb for Mullo book two. Wanna see? Here's a sneak peak:
After the supernatural week Pearl Kizzy's just had, she deserves some fun. Adam Flint's assignment in New Orleans serves as the perfect excuse for a loved-up weekend away. But hidden behind the allure of the Deep South's sultry Jazz and spicy Cajun aromas, awaits her worst nightmare.

TEN: When A Mullo Loves A Woman comes out in print very soon! We're going through the process as I speak/blog, so watch the blog for news of when the print edition hits the stores. And I have some rather pretty custom made bookthongs to giveaway with future 'print' contests. They're gorgeous, Hockeyvamp did a fantastic job on them, I don't know how she does it, but they have beads with the book cover set inside them! So cool.

Anyway, that's all the facts I have for you, today. So I'll love ya and leave ya...for now.

Before I go, another quick reminder -- April is almost out, so if you want to Read for a Cure, GRAB IT QUICK!

xx

When a Mullo Loves a Woman Playlist

Music...it's right up there in the major DECADENT league, you can find it next to chocolate, reading, and all the other stuff I shall not mention here -- hey, some things that are 'meant' to be private you know! hehe
Anyway, when I heard Decadent Authors were sharing their playlists, I got school-girl giddy! I love finding out about which songs inspire authors and for which projects. Well, I had to share, too. Or it just wouldn't have been fair, now would it? So, here's my wee playlist for my current DECADENT release:

Goodreads ratings: 43 (avg rating 4.00)
She thought the mullo was just a myth…she was dead wrong.
  1. The Tea Party - Save Me - I've been a long time of The Tea Party ever since I saw them play live, many moons ago. I knew this song would be perfect for Adam; it IS Adam, not only does the sexy, dark rhythm remind me of him, but the lyrics are just perfectly suited. And I would love to save him!
  2. The Tea Party - The River - The 'river is running through my veins' - yeah, another Adam song!
  3. The Divine Madness - Break Apart - This beautiful, sad song matches Pearl, and how her 'past life' self feels. It's so haunting, and had me crying while creating her back story.
  4. The Divine Madness - Closer - This is Adam and Pearl, in the present. No other song could have done the job better. And it's one of my favorites to listen to.
  5. Yasmin Levy - Happiness - This is the song that I listened to when writing the 'bedroom' scene, and the youtube video itself is a bit of a bedroom scene. It inspired me a lot, the whole feel of the song is just perfect for Adam and Pearl's connection.
  6. Shakira - Gypsy - I listened to this song to bring out the flirty side of Pearl.
  7. Katy Perry - Hot n Cold - This song wasn't originally part of the manuscript, but upon advice from my awesome editor, who told me a bar playing the likes of The Doors was too old fashioned, and Police's Roxanne. To get 'with-it' I asked my daughter what her favorite song was. This was her selection -- and it is perfect for Adam's hot and coldness toward Pearl.
As mentioned above, the below posted youtube is my favorite song. And I love how they based the music video on Alice in Wonderland. They make some wicked music videos, and have a life time fan in me :) When A Mullo Loves A Woman would not be the book it is without their music as a backdrop to my writing. To find out more about The Divine Madness, you can find them on MySpace and Facebook FUN-FACT: this song has appeared in a movie, Dracula's Curse.

When A Mullo Loves A Woman
Adam Flint's Gypsy visions always guide him to those who need his paranormal gifts. He gets more than he bargained for in Pearl Kizzy, a beautiful spitfire from Liverpool. Adam knows that to save Pearl, he must help her accept her own Gypsy heritage.

Although Adam and Pearl fight their burning attraction for one another, a night of passion sparks memories of their treacherous former lives. Unable to face the loss of Pearl in this century, Adam scrambles for distance from the love of his life. A rejected Pearl falls into the arms of a Mullo - a gypsy vampire - who lays claim to her heart, and her life.

To survive, Adam and Pearl must accept their tragic past, and find a way to kill the undead.
