What's Out There?

by Jessica E. Subject

Do you ever just stare up at the stars and wonder what else is out there in the universe? I do, all the time. Could be why I write science fiction romance. ;) Throughout the winter, I always saw Orion on clear mornings. I can usually spot one of the dippers, and after following the blog posts on Space.com, I’ve seen Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and, I think, Saturn.
But it’s what may be beyond our solar system that interests me more. The Keplar mission has found many Earth-like planets, and other larger and smaller that exist in their sun’s “Goldilocks Zone”. The Alpha Centauri system has been a favorite destination for sci-fi authors and to have as the home planet of their aliens. And there are so many others where life just may be possible, including Gliese 581.
For certain stories, I like to look at things from a different point of view. Instead of being the Earthling staring into space, I take the viewpoint of an alien wondering about Earth. In Celestial Seduction, my debut story, my alien comes to Earth, wanting to experience life and love on a different planet. And in my current work-in-progress, which I’ll be submitting to the Beyond Fairytales line, my prince doesn’t come from another planet to find an Earth woman, but the opposite. He travels to another planet to find an alien woman and bring her back to Earth.
Whether aliens will ever travel to our planet, I have no idea. I guess it depends on what our planet has to offer. But the idea gives my muse plenty to work with.

Question: What do you think is the best thing about Earth? What does our planet have to offer an extraterrestrial visitor?

A 1Night Stand story
By Jessica E. Subject
Erotic Sci-Fi Romance
ISBN: 978-1613330944

At the end of his obligated commitment to the Space Service, Frey Berger decides to stay on Earth to further experience human emotions rather than return to Ginnun where his intended has already mated with another. Looking for real love and someone to accept him for what he is, Frey enlists in Madame Evangeline’s popular dating service. Although he does not understand the concept of a one-night stand, he hopes to find his perfect mate.
Carrie Cooper’s husband divorced her for someone who could provide him with children, leaving her with little self-confidence and no desire to let a man hurt her again. Her best friend convinces her to join a dating service, claiming Carrie needs to get laid, while not winding up with a broken heart since her date requires no commitment after the night is over.
Although several misunderstandings nearly derail them before the date has even begun, Carrie and Frey end up becoming closer than they ever believed possible. Still, Frey will need to convince Carrie that her perfect mate isn’t human at all, and that one night can lead to a forever love.
