While
many of my stories involving aliens are ideas that pop into my head, my most
recent release, Made For Her, was
partially inspired by a science fiction romance television show I used to watch
as a teen. No, it’s not the popular Firefly. I was an adult by
then. It’s a lesser-known show from 1995 that lasted about as long on
television. Space: Above and
Beyond takes place in the year 2063, and shows the story of five young
recruits in the United States Marine Corps Space Aviator Calvary. They are
heading for the front lines in Earth’s first battle with extraterrestrial life.
But
that’s not the part that inspired Made
For Her. It was one of the characters. Rodney Rowland played Lt. Cooper
Hawkes, a human, conceived through in-vitro fertilization, then placed in a
tank to develop, rather than a womb. While his squadron called him Coop, others
referred to him as “The tank” because of how he came into the world. And,
although he is not a clone, it was the torment he experienced that helped to
inspire the story of a clone longing for the woman whose late husband donated
his genes, and the woman who wants what she can never have.
It
didn’t help the fact that I had a huge crush on the character, too. But that’s
another story…
Made For Her
Blurb:
After terrorists murder the love of
her life, Colonel Mikayla Jones trains squadron after squadron of the clones he
brought to life, to take to the skies. When she discovers a young clone of her
husband in her newest class, her world spins out of control. How can she
command the look-a-like when she can’t help but yearn for him to fill an ache
in her heart?
Dare was created to be the best. As
the first Daniel clone to leave Onatria labs, he needs to prove he is more than
just a DNA copy. To do that, he must rely on the wife of the man who donated
his genes. But when she refuses to train him, Dare faces discharge and
returning to the labs. Can he convince Colonel Jones to finish his training and
find a way into her bed? Or will long kept secrets unhinge the entire clone
project?

Excerpt:
Colonel Jones eyed each one of her new cadets, examining the
neatness of their uniforms, while inspecting for signs of stress or
over-anxiousness. She’d never seen the telltale muscle twitches or sweats in
any previous clones, only in human-borns, but she had to look for them anyway.
The first generation of clones didn’t live long enough to
become cadets. Their hearts gave out within a year after incubation. But the
scientists at Onatria had plowed on, utilizing more of Daniel’s research,
speeding up the aging process with hormones to create the perfect generation
she saw before her.
She’d had female clones in previous squadrons, but the
government filled the one in front of her with testosterone-driven masculinity.
If she’d been younger, she’d have a hard time concentrating. But her days of
crushes and fantasies were long over. She was devoted to serving her country
and planet, and nothing else.
That didn’t stop her from going out on the town for a
stress-relieving fuck from time to time. But these young men in front of her
appeared so virile, sure to last longer than any of her previous sexual
partners.
No.
As junior officers, and more importantly, as clones, they were off limits.
Inspecting them gave her the opportunity to check out more
than their fatigues and tics, but if they knew her thoughts, they’d walk all
over her. She’d be done.
They were of varying nationalities, builds, and heights, all
fit to serve the planet. None of the cadets revealed any indication he would
put the lives of others in jeopardy. This will be an easy squadron, every
one of them ready to fly in a matter of weeks.
She reached the last cadet and froze. Her stomach clenched. No,
they couldn’t have!
She
pivoted on her heel and rushed off the tarmac, leaving the squad without an
instructor.

I used to write fan fiction when I was a teenager so with aroun 150 stories in my notebooks, you can see how much I was inpsired by TV characters. I've just been lucky enough to win one of yours so don't enter me again. Let someone else find out what a great writer you are!!!
If I name a program you're going to guess how old I am...
Favorite show from my teenage years? That was so long ago I had to look up what shows were on TV at that time! LOL! Chips, Macgyver, Hawaii 5-0, any show with cops, car chases, explosions. Yep, I watched a lot of TV with my dad and brother! LOL! Thanks for the giveaway!

Hey Barbara! That's one thing I've never written, is fan fiction. Though, I have (obviously) watched TV shows, and thought, What if? Thanks so much!
Hey Susan! Oh, I used to watch Macgyver ALL the time. Quantum Leap is another one I remember from my childhood. Great shows back then! :)
The title of the show is familiar, but I don't think I've ever watched it.
That show title does ring a bell! I was a fan of Quantum Leap right around that time. No, I think it was on before '95, but still awesome show.
*Firefly FOREVER* Sorry, I know that's not what this blog is about, but I'm a fangirl :)
Best of luck on sales!
Fierce - I'm glad someone remembers it. Space: Above and Beyond is definitely not as popular as Firefly, but I still loved it. Thanks so much! :)
Faith - It was awesome! Military sci-fi with a touch of romance. Had clones, aliens, and artificial intelligence. So cool! :)
Olivia - I was a huge fan of Scott Bakula in Quantum Leap. Though I didn't watch Firefly when it was on. Was at university then, and didn't watch much television. Thank you! :)
I was addicted to Barabus Collins (Dark Shadows) as a teenager. I havent seen the movie yet with J Depp, but expect to be disappointed. Love the excerpt. Another one I'm looking foward to reading. Congrats on all the releases!!!
