As the title hints to this is a Spotlight on moi, a.c. Mason! I’m going to answer questions to allow you to better get to know me. I’ve mentioned this before, but for those of you that weren’t there, I’ll say it again. I write fiction so treat everything I say accordingly. One last thing, I prefer to be a mystery wrapped in a conundrum veiled in the smoke of an enigma hidden behind the wizard’s curtain. But here is me opening up to you.

Do you have a milestone birthday coming up? If so, how are you approaching it?

June 15, 2011, is the two-year anniversary of publishing my first book Aequitas I Betrayal. It’s also the birthday of someone very dear to me, so I’ll probably go out to share some red wine and a fine meal.

What is your next big thing?

Surrendering To The Right Man will be the May 2011 Read For a Cure. Decadent is donating that months proceeds and so am I. I’m thrilled to take part in this initiative. My grandmother died of cancer and my mother survived her pre-cancer cell treatments. It’s a cause very dear to me.

What do you think makes a good story?

A must have for me is compelling characters, interesting dilemmas and a unique twists on what’s been done. If an author can shift my perception of a character or life situation, I think they have achieved the ultimate.

Tell us about your current release.

SURRENDERING TO THE RIGHT MAN is an Erotic Interracial Contemporary Romance here’s the premise.

Indy Kent is caught between what she once felt and what she can’t accept feeling. On one side of her emotional dilemma is Liam her best friend and the other his brother Tim. Add to that secrets, passion, and love and you have a woman who needs to Surrender To The Right Man. But which one, Liam or Tim? You’ll need to read the novella to find out.

How do you develop your plots and your characters? Do you use any set formula?

Algebra and I never got on, but I do notice an algorithm to my writing. I start with an image or a scene and the notion of the characters. From there I construct the conflict and add in accordingly to get the result.

SURRENDERING TO THE RIGHT MAN will be released on April 22nd, 2011.

Just the Facts with a.c. Mason

I guess I’m ‘supposed to tell you the facts, all the fact so help me... Now whether you are incline to believe anything I say is your business as I do make stuff up. Don’t forget I write fiction.

       1)      I did not learn to drive until I was 26 years old. Look, I was busy and had other stuff to do.

       2)      I have an aversion to heights. If I was meant to fly I would have been born with wings. This has never stopped me from doing something I wanted to do even when my better judgment should have.

       3)      I have not travel to tropical destinations since I was a child. 

       4)      Snakes aren’t my friends. We have a healthy relationship at a distance.

       5)      I’ve taken the train from one Canadian coast to the other. I’m in awe of the beauty of Canada.

6)      I’ve been a downhill skier ever since I can remember. I don’t like the lifts. You guessed it.  Because you are high off the ground in a flimsy piece of metal attached to some roping. What’s the deal with that? My favorite place to ski is the Marmot basin.

7)      The things I miss the most from my childhood are the summers out by the ocean in the town I was born in and the French culture of living in a Francophone community. A few food items I can’t get over here too like sugar pie and cheese curds.

8)      My father is American. I have a large extended family living in the United States of America.

9)      I love every single one of my gray hairs. I stopped dying my hair all shades of the rainbow when they appeared. I’ve earned them through the adventures, knowledge, and experience my life’s journey has afforded me.

10)  I’ve jumped onto a moving train. I don’t recommend you try it as the situation got hairy.

Hello, Decadent World!

Hi, I'm a.c. Mason. But everyone calls me Mason so you can too.

By day I have a super hero job, but by night I am an evil mastermind that delves into dark places to form intricate stories of passion and adventure. Being a complex character myself with a heritage of Scottish, Belgian, African American, and Cherokee and having traveled widely and studied theology, politics, history, horror, and erotica, I cannot help but create worlds and characters that entice with their passion for life and each other while the world and circumstances twist around them. It’s all true, cross my heart and hope to get a lot of sexy men sent my way. Wink!

Now that we got that out of the way, let’s uncover more about me and my stories.

Boxers or Briefs?

I ask you, ‘why pick one?’ when you can have a man wearing neither. Lol. Take them off.

When do you write? How long per day?

I prefer to write in a bed at night with hot naked men next to me. Okay, fine I admit it. I don’t get much writing done that way. But I still prefer it. As for how long I write usually about five to seven hours week days and often over ten on the weekends.

Tell us about your favorite character from your books.

The heroine of Surrendering To The Right Man, Indy Kent is one of my favorite characters. Indy is the first new characters I wrote when I decided to get published. Her journey is one that we all go through at some point or another in our life. When we are holding on so hard to what we think we should want, who we think we are, what we think we should do and even the man we should be with and yet a little part of us nags us because we know we’ve changed. We have to find the courage to leap. She isn’t perfect and makes mistakes along the way for that I adore her. And she’d got two hot suitors Liam and Tim. What is there not to like about that?

Plotter or Pantser? Why?

I prefer to be a pantser, but I accept that at times I must do a mix of both. The reason for this is simply time. I can write a novella or novel from a 200 to 300 word blurb or from a 2 to 5 page synopsis. I don’t write a novel to write a book. It also means I don’t have to write a blurb and synopsis at the end.

Has someone helped or mentored you in your writing career?

My writing path has been guided by many hands. I don’t know how others are out there writing alone. I’ve dedicated nearly every book I’ve written to those who have helped me along the way. Surrendering To The Right Man is no different. Because I’ve had other help me, I’ve given of myself to aspiring authors in the same way.
