Pet novelty dragons. What a wild concept!

Well, I think it’s wild, but then I don’t think like most people do. {winks} Can you imagine if you had a pet dragon the size of a domestic cat and no larger than a Cocker Spaniel? Speaking of the dog…in about five weeks, if all works out, I will pick out a new Cocker Spaniel puppy as our next family dog. I’m sure I’ll imagine a shiny black dragon in its place like Nova owns—‘cept hers is red—in Star-Kissed Chocolate. Thankfully our new puppy won’t be setting the couch or carpet on fire, LOL!

Nova’s pet, Smokey, is jealous of the unexpected man in her life, so her dragon makes it clear Roman is to vacate the apartment and never lay eyes on Smokey’s mistress again. But Nova has more problems than her pet spraying flames at the most inopportune times. Money is vanishing from the firm where she works, and Roman’s strange behavior makes matters worse. Oh, and Smokey only fans the flames—Yee-ouch!

{chuckles} You’ll have to find out what sort of insane chaos owning a pet dragon can cause. Oh, and word of warning—this book possesses long, hot, mind-numbing, toe-curling, thrown-over-the-motorcycle-seat sex.

Oh, and a dragon that gets even…yes siree! Even, even, even…mwhahaha! 

Mixing Magic

Voodoo, faerie magic, ghosts, witchcraft...

Did I get your attention? There’s a new title out: Darkest Kiss, Darkest Bliss. It involves all of the above—and more. So many paranormal romances nowadays are about werewolves, vampires, and other shape changers. What about the men and women who call upon the unseen forces? Better yet, what if they call upon them without really knowing what they’re doing?

Writers often write the bad guys of their real lives into their books. Heck, I’ve done it many times myself. Deirdre, my heroine, takes it a step further. She has suffered the worst betrayal possible. When it comes to love, people do drastic things. However, her husband was warned, but he thought he could have his cake and eat it, too.

Voodoo is a religion, but there is a dark side to it. And if you consider furry voodoo—lol, our new kitten—it can be full of sharp li’l teeth and claws. Maybe I should’ve tossed her into the story; she would’ve defeated the bad guy in spades. Trust me, she was named Voodoo for a reason, the li’l heathen.

I invite you to read Deirdre’s story. At 12K it’s a quick yet satisfying read. I challenge you to see if you can figure out how the book ends. I’m betting you won’t, mwahaha! Be careful, a li’l voodoo mixed with other magic can....

A New Book in The Crimson Bane Battles!

Hello! [waves to readers] Many of you know me online as Faith Bicknell-Brown (F.L. Bicknell), but I write for Decadent Publishing under one of my main pen names, Azura Ice (http://ablueice.wordpress.com).


Something I find interesting about erotic romance novels is the vast amount of readers who love m/m romance. I’ve read posts and blogs where readers talk about how they like to read about two hunky men getting it on, that they find it highly erotic. Although I read one now and then I have my pseudonyms for writing m/m fiction, too.


My series, The Crimson Bane Battles, begins with Ian, an Earthie, and Skorpe who’s a Parallelan (they look like Goths, but their black lips and nails are natural to their race). The first three books are m/m romance mixed into an end-of-world theme full of paranormal coolness, action, adventure, and a splash of mystery. I enjoy such stories, movies, and televisions programs. A couple of my all-time faves are Falling Skies and The Walking Dead. I also look forward to watching Revolutions coming this fall.


Why did I also choose to write a series involving an end-of-world plot? I like to see how people overcome problems, and I also like to see how characters grow when put in such situations. However, I can add some of my own survival know-how to my plot because of how and where I was raised, so it’s fun as well.


Ian and Skorpe overcome enormous obstacles for their love. I hope you’ll buy and read the first three books in my series. So what’s after Absinthe Dawn? Well, book 4 will involve a love triangle involving the character Regina Whitecash, who has been forced to grow up a lot and fast. She meets an Earthie and a Paralellan, and both men fall for her. I’m not sure yet if book 4 will be a ménage romance or if Regina will choose a single mate, but rest assured Ian and Skorpe will make appearances in her story, too, so if you grow fond of the two lovers, don’t worry—they’ll be characters in a few more books.

What makes m/m romance so appealing to you? Is it sexy hunks with sexy hunks, the emotion between two men in love, or does it give you a break from reading heterosexual romance? Or...well, do tell!

Kick-Ass Heroines

As a reader and an editor, I love reading about strong, kick-ass women. If I read something with a woman who can’t think straight, who falls apart when someone farts sideways, or can’t seem to make a decision without I Thump On Chest He-Man helping her, I’ll toss the story or book aside so fast there’s a trail of fire behind it.

Now that doesn’t mean a heroine shouldn’t have flaws and insecurities. We all do, woman or man. I’m talking about woman who can’t do anything without Thump On Chest He-Man’s opinion. Puh-leeze!

Women have been the strength behind thrones for thousands of centuries. Even if they live in a society where men *think* they own them like a horse or a dog, somehow, someway women figure out how to be the stronger sex—not to mention the smarter sex. Even women in abusive relationships outwit the jerk who’s abusing her. I know because I’ve been there, especially when the relationship involves a child(ren). Somehow, some way a woman will overcome the obstacle.

When Heather Bennett asked me to write the launch book for Decadent’s Elatia line, I decided I’d write a strong yet unique heroine. Oh, she’s not the typical gal who gets in a boxing ring with another woman. Neither is she the type of female who has mutant powers like Storm from the X-Men or even Wonder Woman. Nah, Feather, my heroine, uses years of training, brute strength, and pure intelligence and willpower. Piss her off and you’re liable to find yourself on the pointy end of a sword that has slain many battle beasts.

Feather is also vulnerable. Taught to show no emotion, she suddenly finds herself thrust into a world where emotion and fleshly pleasure overwhelm everything else. It’s like being the new, poor kid tossed into the wealthiest high school in the nation. How do you fit in and is it even possible, especially in matters of love? And when it comes to a love triangle, desire is an understatement.

The Big Ka-Pow

Attention K Mart shoppers, we have a sale on—whoops!

Thump, thump, thump, thump, thump! Slam!

Sorry. I walked into the wrong building. Although those sparkly, Halloween thongs on that display were really cute. Anyway, my pumpkins are a little bigger than those were.

So, how is everyone today? Been reading and fueling your mind, and of course, your libido? Purchased any futuristic or sci-fi romances? 

Well, word on the cyber block is that futuristic and sci-fi romances are gaining popularity. What the big publishers don’t realize, however, is that readers have been searching for these categories of romance and can’t find many of them unless they turn to e-books. Seems like only e-publishers know what a cash cow these categories are becoming. And another word is that the big publishers insist mixing futuristic and sci-fi with romance doesn’t sell. Hmm. Really? Maybe they should talk to readers and get the dirt straight from them instead of the bean counters.

These two categories open a Pandora’s Box of ideas, settings, characters, gadgets, worlds... Then add romance to it and ka-pow! Hold it. Not *that* ka-pow, the *other* ka-pow. You, over there by the coffee maker! Ka-pow as in a big bang. The kind where...aw, forget it. I swear. Get a bunch of women together talking romance and hunky guys and it’s a sex and chocolate free-for-all.

Anyway...what was I talking about? Oh, yeah. Futuristic and sci-fi books.

When you mix these two categories with romance and create the big ka-pow—stares hard at the chick giggling over at the coffeemaker—you have a book that often hits the Top Ten e-Book charts. Readers enjoy unique material as long as it’s written in a way they can suspend their beliefs. However, I think fewer writers tackle sci-fi because of the amount of world building and research that goes into writing the genre. Futuristic is easier since it typically involves a much shorter time leap into the future. Often futuristic involves changes in society and government; whereas, science fiction can leap into soft sci-fi, moderate, militaristic, or hard sci-fi that’s very techie.

I prefer writing soft sci-fi to moderate where I spend a lot of time creating the world and making sure that it’s believable and will support what the plot is about.

Lace, Lightning, and Multiple Orgasms, one of the 1 Night Stand books, is soft sci-fi with a dash of cyberpunk. Book one of The Sky Streamer Series, Conquering Venus (not the planet, a woman, lol), is a little more intense and deals with a post-apocalyptic Earth. And my Crimson Bane Battles, book 1 and book 2, center on futuristic post-apocalyptic for all you m/m fiction readers out there.

Decadent Publishing is one publisher willing to publish wonderful sci-fi and futuristic books, so if you’re looking for these categories, always check Decadent’s cyber shelves. And if you’re not a reader of these categories, and you’re looking for unique fiction to try, why not grab a few of these books and open your mind to the wonders of not only the universe, but other dimensions...and some hot loving with a lot of ka-pow.
