Character Interview – Craving Cameo

Good Morning everyone, I’m doing something a little different today. Usually when I do a character interview it’s only the main characters, but I have gotten so many requests from people wanting to know more about Cougar and Felicia along with Cricket, that I thought I would include the main characters of Craving Cameo in this short interview.
Since everyone has gathered with us, let’s begin.

Q: What was your first impression of Cameo when you met her?
Quade: Pure trouble wrapped in ribbons and dresses. I knew even when she was six she would be the death of me and she almost was. *A round of chuckles filled the space.* But, she was cute. Curious. Always gave me the biggest smile whenever she saw me and truth be told, she owned my heart from the moment she laid eyes on me.
Felicia: Her wit. *She looked to her friend and gave a small smile.* I remember walking into the auditorium to grab my dorm assignment and my freshman pack and there she stood giving some RA hell. The guy had at least six inches on her and about seventy pounds, but she didn’t care. By the time she walked away, she had her folder, key and a meal plan I’m not even sure she signed up for. *Felicia laughed.* The next time I saw her she was in class. We hit it off from there.
Cougar: My bar would never be the same again. *He sat back in his chair slightly and extended his legs. Folding his arms over his chest, he smirked.* I knew who she was the minute she stepped inside with Felicia. All I kept thinking to myself was; does Drake know about this? Do I have to worry about the Alpha trying to come in here and kick my ass? But, this girl can take care of herself. Don’t let her girly looks deceive you.
Cricket: *He gave a shy grin when he looked at Cameo.* I had to get to know her. I knew she was Drake’s babygirl, and I knew he would kick my ass if I touched her, but she is special, you know? *He sat forward in his chair and looked to Quade.* You know it, don’t you? She walks into the room and everyone stops to stare. It’s the craziest thing I’ve ever seen. To be able to call her my friend is the shit. I’m honored.
Cameo: You guys suck. Here you are talking about me and breaking down my tough girl rep. I should cut all of you.
But then the interview would be over. *Cameo curls her lip and growls.* Hey I’m just the interviewer. You’re not allowed to cut me.
Q: The bounty on your head Cameo, did you think it was a quick way for Quade to get in your pants?
Cameo: No. He let me leave. I figured it was Daddy’s way of bringing me home, because he didn’t like me being away from him. But, when we were attacked in the bar… *She let out a slow, shaky breath.* I knew it was real and we had to act fast.
Q: So you came up with being kidnapped by Xavier and Quade?
Cameo: Yep. Quade hated it—
Quade: Still do. I should paddle your ass later for even thinking of such a thing.
Cameo: *Rolls her eyes.* Anyway, I knew it would work. I just hadn’t planned for everything else.
Q: Speaking of everything else, how are you holding up after your father died?
Cameo: I have my good days and my bad days.
Quade: And when she’s having a bad day we’re all here for her.
Cougar: We’re family now. No way in hell we’d let her suffer.
Cricket: Besides Mari, Cameo is like our sister. We’re very protective of her. *He looked at me like the weight of the world rested on his shoulders.* Drake was a rare man, let alone, shifter. He did what he felt was right. Took care of his pack and instilled loyalty into his pack mates. His death not only left a hole in his daughter’s life, but all of ours too.
*A round of nods flowed around the circle we sat in.*
Q: So what’s next?
Cougar: I guess that depends on Felicia.
Felicia: There is so much to sort out. So many things I didn’t know about until now. Plus…I think someone is following me.
Cougar: What?
       Felicia: I’m sure it’s nothing.
Cricket: My ass, nothing. If we learned anything with Cameo, you never can be too cautious.
Cameo: Why didn’t you tell me?
Felicia: *She shrugged.* You were busy. Besides, I talked to my father who’s going to look into it as well. I’m more than sure it’s nothing.
Cougar: I oughta whoop your ass—
Okay, okay, it’s time for a little this or that, ready? *A grumble of yes’s filled the room.* Excellent.
Q: Chocolate or Vanilla?
Cameo: Chocolate
Quade: Vanilla
Cricket: Neither I want some cookie dough.
Cougar: Vanilla
Felicia: Chocolate.
Q: Staying home or Going out?
Quade: Going out.
Cameo: Going out.
Felicia: I learned my lesson. Staying home.
Cougar: Going out.
Cricket: Going out.
Q: Morning or Night?
Cameo: Both.
Quade: Both.
Cricket: Night.
Cougar: Night.
Felicia: Morning.
One more….
Q: Your mate or A random hook up?
Cameo: My mate.
Quade: My mate.
Cricket: Older, random hook up.
Cougar: My mate.
Felicia: *A sob fell from her lips as she ran from the room. Cougar was hot on her tail.*
Well, that didn’t end like I thought it would. Thank you all for doing this with me.
Cricket: You’re welcome, TL. How about you let me take you for that ride I promised you and I’ll show you what being a bear is about? *He winks at me and I giggled just a bit.*
I’m way too old for you Cricket.
Cricket: Then you’re perfect.

Blurb:
The daughter of the Sentinels pack and MC Alpha, Cameo Cruz moved across country to escape her pack—and the wolf she can never have. Making a new life, she embraced her freedom and went to school. One partying night with her best friend shatters her bubble of safety, and she’s forced to do the one thing she swore she never would…ask for help.
Quade Rainwater lives for his pack and the life the Sentinels Alpha gave him when he took him in. He’d do anything for them, even cut himself off from the she-wolf he’s loved for as long as he’s known her. When all hell breaks loose and someone puts a bounty on his girl, Quade will cross the country to protect her. Unfortunately for him, he’s the last person she wants to see.
All he has to do is keep her safe from the bounty hunters, the locals, and himself….
Excerpt:
“Why? Why are you here?”
“Do you really think I want to be here?” he asked. “Do you think I find it fun leaving my home to drive clear across the fucking country to find you? Huh? I don’t want to be here anymore than you want me here, but your fucking father—” He snarled and began to pace. “He’s losing it where you’re concerned.”
“Well.” She gave a humorless chuckle, turning away from him. “You can tell him I’m perfectly fine.” She wouldn’t give her father or him the benefit of seeing her fear. She’d take care of the other problem on her own.
“Little girl, don’t start.” He laid his hands on her shoulders, and she shrugged them off. “Don’t you know you have a bounty on your head?”
“What?” She whirled around and stared up at him.
“The other night when you called Hui, Xavier also found out about a bounty on your head.” Indifference seemed to coat his unreadable expression and words. “There are more coming. They’ll be here by tonight. We need to leave. If I can get you to your dad—”
“No.”
“Cameo,” he snapped. “This is not a fucking game.”
“You’re right. It’s not a game. I will not forfeit my life for some bounty. I’m staying.” She wouldn’t add he could stay and watch over her.
“Well, you’ve got two choices, sweetheart. Come with me or wait to be picked up by the guys who are out for your bounty.” He didn’t blink. He didn’t get angry, nothing.
“My answer is still no.” Crossing her arms, she arched a brow, daring him to say something to the contrary. She played with fire, knowing full well what might happen if she pushed him too far. Quade was not a wolf used to hearing the word no. His nostrils flared. His body tightened.
“Damn it, Cameo,” he growled, while taking a step toward her. “Why are you being so damn obstinate?”
She blew him off and pushed past him, crossing the room to her small fridge. “I’m sorry if I seem obstinate to you, but this is my life we’re talking about.”
“Is this because I wouldn’t give you the time of day?” Typical wolf. Always thinking with their penis.
“Not hardly.”
“What in the hell do you want from me?”
Want from him? She didn’t want anything from him. She hadn’t even wanted to see him again.
In two strides, he closed the distance between them and dipped his head. “Is this what you want?” He nuzzled her neck and groaned. “Tell me,” he demanded. “Do you want me to drop to my knees and beg for forgiveness? To tell you I’ve wanted you since the moment you turned eighteen?” His lips were only inches from her ear. His warm breath brushed against the shell, causing her to shiver. “You ran away from me.”
“Ran away from you? I left home so I could get an education and be someone better than a thug.” She grimaced inwardly when he flinched and withdrew from her. Quade wasn’t a thug, neither was her father.
“So, I’m a thug now?” He shook his head while clenching his fists at his sides. “Are you saying when you were on pack lands you thought so low of me…of your father and our friends?”
“Now you’re twisting my words.”
“Am I? Didn’t you say you left home so you didn’t become one, meaning we, the members of your pack, are thugs?” He cocked a brow, daring her to say something else stupid. Insert foot in mouth, dummy.
“Look, I didn’t storm into your home and pick a fight with you. So…so why don’t you leave?” Brilliant! Way to go you.
A dark sinful chuckle passed his lips as he pulled her to him, engulfing her in his embrace. “You never did know when to shut up.”
His lips slammed down on hers in a brutal kiss. He tasted of danger and excitement. Of raw masculine power. Cameo’s wolf preened, desperate to rub all over him and submit to his dominance. He swiped his tongue across hers, and she became a puddle of goo. “Would you like to know where my mark will go when I mate you?”

Christmas on the Farm

by Jessica E. Subject

For those who don’t know, I spent a few years at the beginning of the millennium living in the country. In this part of Canada, that means outside of the city, with farmland and woods (bush) all around. I enjoyed most things about living out there, but I have so many memories about winters and Christmases living in the farmhouse.
The first year, I had to get used to driving in the snow. I never went for my official license until I knew we were moving out there, so I didn’t have much practice. And living on a gravel road had its own complications.
During my second year there, not only did I wind up in a farmer’s field after sliding on an icy road, but I decided to host a double family Christmas. Well, it was a disaster. Or so I believed. I didn’t have enough mashed potatoes for everyone, and I was so emotional, I kept crying every five minutes. Little did I know that I was pregnant with my first child.
And in the third year, my husband and I were driving home on Christmas Eve, my little baby in the backseat, when a deer ran toward me from the field. At first it ran alongside me, but I worried it would run out in front of me. My husband had preached at me many times about what to do if this happens. I did not slam on the brakes, but slowed down. And the deer did run in front. But, I was going slow enough, I didn’t hit it. I was home within two minutes with my heart racing, but I didn’t hit a deer or get into an accident.
It was experiences like these, and tales I’d heard from others that I used as inspiration for writing Accidental Romance, my New Adult contemporary romance about a young woman who loses her hand in a farming accident. And part of the story takes place just before Christmastime.

Here’s an excerpt...
Leanne stared out the window, watching the many empty fields go past as Tina drove. Empty like her heart. Nothing about the day had made her feel any better. Not even the prospect of having a temporary hand in two weeks.
“C’mon, Leanne,” Tina said. “You have to stop dwelling on him. Think of all the good that came out of today. Your appointment went well, and you bought a couple of cute new outfits.” She slowed down at the next stop sign. “Though you’re the most depressing shopping partner I’ve ever had.”
With a sigh, she turned to her friend. “I’m sorry. I didn’t expect today to start the way it did.” She’d thought her worst days were over, hoped she could put the accident behind her. But her heartache hurt nearly as much as losing her hand.
“I know, but maybe it will end better.” Tina accelerated again and pulled into Leanne’s driveway within minutes.
She doubted anything could make the day better. She wanted to crawl into bed and sleep, forget about the pain Jake had caused. She glanced in the dining room window and saw the Christmas tree had been set up. What? Her mother hadn’t waited for her to help? She had participated in decorating the tree for as long as she could remember.
So much for the day getting better.
She shoved the door open, craving her bed even more. Tina was staying for dinner, though, so she had to last a few more hours. Meeting her friend at the trunk of her car, Leanne grabbed her bags then headed for the house.
“So, what are we having?” Tina asked.
She shrugged. Her mom hadn’t told her what she’d planned to make, or anything about putting up the tree. “No one tells me anything anymore.” No, instead she was fed lies, set up for heartbreak.
Tina gripped her shoulder as she reached to open the door. But it swung open in front of her. Jake stood in the doorway like a mirage in the desert. She wanted to run into his arms, pretend the morning had never happened. Instead, all of her hurt and anger spewed out in her words. “What the fuck are you doing here? I thought you quit.”

Would you want to live Underground?

by Jessica E. Subject

Woot! My release day is finally here. I hope you’ll check out The Star Princess.
In my New Adult Sci-Fi Romance, many of the characters live underground. Some as their permanent residence and others as a temporary measure. On the planet Minjet, the people build their homes in the sides of cliffs and hills where the majority of their home is underground. While the common people live in houses more like The Shire, the castle where Princess Ro’sa grew up is much more futuristic, like the Enterprise built into a rock face. Most of my inspiration for this setting came from pictures I found on Pinterest and my own imagination. With this type of dwelling, the temperature is much more regulated, decreasing the need for air conditioners and furnaces. And this environmental aspect is one of the reasons the people of Earth have traveled to Minjet. That, and to bring Princess Ro’sa back to marry the prince from their planet.
When Princess Ro’sa does arrive on Earth, she finds herself underground again, but not anything like her dwelling back home. Rust drips down metal walls, metal doors creak open, and it is cold. Inspiration for this setting came more from watching shows and reading articles about abandoned buildings and cities. And from stories my father told me about underground complexes in Canada.
In the first case, people live underground as that is how they live. They don’t know any different. And on Earth, they are underground for their safety. In both cases, I think I could live underground, but I would still yearn to go outside, feel the sunshine and the rain.

GIVEAWAY!
What about you? Could you live underground? Which type of underground dwelling would you prefer? Leave your answer in the comments below to win one of my backlist titles from Decadent Publishing. Contest is international, but void where prohibited by law. Must be 18 or older to enter. Good luck!

A Beyond Fairytales story
New Adult Erotic Sci-Fi Romance
ISBN: 978-1-61333-765-3

In one week, Princess Ro’sa will board a spaceship, leaving her home on Minjet to be with her betrothed on Earth. The only problem is, she detests the prince’s selfish and arrogant ways, preferring to spend time with his personal aide, a man who stirs her desires in ways she never imagined possible with his radiant blue eyes and smouldering lips. And oh, the way he touches her.
Earth’s post-apocalyptic landscape offers little but the alliance offers much and a princess must do her duty, no matter the danger to her person and to her heart.
Available from: Amazon | Decadent | more

Excerpt:
At the whoosh of the space shuttle flying overhead, the feline on Ro’sa’s knee hissed before jumping to the floor. Ro’sa hurried to the front of the house, pressing her palms and nose against the window. Somewhere in that ship was her betrothed, the prince from Earth she would marry.
Ka’lyn, her best friend, squeezed in beside her, claiming the rest of the available window space. “What do you think he looks like? I’ve never seen anyone from Earth before. Maybe he has two heads, or one eye....” She nudged Ro’sa’s side. “Two cocks?”
“Ka, really?” Flaring heat rushed to Ro’sa’s cheeks and temporarily paused the fluttering of firetubes in her stomach. In seven rotations, she would say good-bye to her home, her family, and all of her friends to be with a complete stranger. She’d grown up knowing this time would come, but it had always seemed so far away. Until he’d arrived. Ro’sa swallowed her nerves. “His people just recently joined the Confederacy. I think the only reason they were invited was to prevent an intergalactic war when they learned of the existence of life beyond their own solar system.” They’d already destroyed most of their planet. Who knows what they would have done had the Confederacy not intervened?
Ka’lyn grabbed her shoulders and turned Ro’sa to face her. “I know all this, but what do they look like?”
“Humanoid, like us.” She searched her memory for the few Terran dignitaries she’d met. “But their skin is different shades of brown, from nearly white to almost black.” Though she had no idea where her betrothed fit into the spectrum, never having been allowed to travel to Earth. How she wished she had. If her parents had allowed them to meet earlier, she’d have far fewer worries and much more experience with how to interact with those from Earth, and with her betrothed. She’d retained her virginity for him, the only female her age on the planet who hadn’t experienced sex, though she hoped to know what it was like before she left for Earth.
“Weird. So, when do you get to meet him?”
“Tonight.” Ro’sa returned her gaze out the window, watching the shuttle descend onto the runway. Had the prince saved himself for her? “There’s an official introduction ceremony where we will shake hands and eat our first meal together.”
“That’s crap.” Her friend tugged on her fingers. “Let’s go meet him as he’s coming off the ship.”
Ro’sa shook her head, yanking her hand away. “I can’t. I have to follow protocol.”
“Then we’ll hide in the shrubs. Don’t you want to check him out before you’re introduced to him in front of everyone?”
Biting her bottom lip, Ro’sa watched the spacecraft disappear below the treetops. “I guess.” Then she wouldn’t look like a fool in her first reaction to him. She could hold her emotions in check, having already caught sight of the prince.
“Let’s go then.” Ka’lyn stood at the door before she had the chance to move.
They left her friend’s home behind. Darting through the woods on the packed dirt path, Ro’sa hoped they’d make it to the runway in time. If the castle guards hastened him away, they’d never make it in time. Why hadn’t her parents let her meet him years ago? Was he that horrendous looking? At least they could have shown her a picture.

Hey everyone!

How are you? I’m here today to talk about my new release, Sorority Wolf.  It is part of Decadent Publishing’s new line, Roar.  It’s a New Adult story about a werewolf in college, trying to find her way, and the demon who gets in her way.

Not to mention he has to figure out how to blackmail the president of a werewolf sorority to appease his demon father. He has no time for lost werewolf Alexandra. But he can’t stop thinking about her.
Alexandra is a werewolf who needs a pack. She comes to college determined to get one. But when her plans fall apart, she turns to Kieran for help—unaware of his true nature or exactly what he wants from her.
The two will play a dangerous game…and with so much at stake, can they see the love right in front of their eyes?

Genre: New adult, contemporary, paranormal, erotic romance, shapeshifters
Heat level: 3
Word count – 17k
 Cover art by Syneca Featherstone

 ~Excerpt~
The wind blew hard against him, and his body acted as a natural resistance to the onslaught of a Massachusetts winter. Three months into the school year, November had hit the northeastern part of the United States with a vengeance. Any sane person would be inside where it was warm. But she had come outside, and he’d followed—as though a length of invisible rope connected him to her.
He loved to watch her.
The way she moved. The way she sometimes didn’t move.
He rubbed the stubble on his chin. How long had it been since he’d shaved? A day? A week? A month? The longer he spent with the humans, the more his body adapted to their form, which was exactly what he’d planned and why he’d risked everything to come to Northern Tide University. The more time he spent in this dimension, the less he had to try to resemble them.
Not understanding total assimilation was exactly what he craved, his father had warned him this would happen as if blending would deter him from his plan. Only he hadn’t counted on her. Alexandra Morgan.
She stood staring up at a white sorority house at the very top of the Greek hill the university was so proud of. Queen House—the one to rule them all—where dreams of young girls were crushed on a regular basis. All the female students desired to be Lambda Chi Sigma. The smartest, prettiest, strongest-willed women the university produced came from the sorority housed there. But first, they had to be accepted into the hallowed halls.
Unbeknownst to the human population of the school, LCS took only one type of student—female werewolves. No matter how many human girls threw their best smiles, hopes, dreams, and money at LCS, they would never be offered the opportunity to pledge. Unless they shifted under the full moon, they were no one.
If he wasn’t mistaken, Alexandra met that particular requirement.
So, why was she so nervous?

Get Ready to ROAR

Welcome to autumn, 2014. It’s a time for pumpkin spice lattes, cooling days, and kids heading back to school. I swear it feels like just yesterday that we were doing this last year. You know, I have a deep and abiding love for paranormal romance. I actually fell in love with urban fantasy and by extension paranormals thanks to two authors: Anne Rice and Emma Bull. If you’ve never checked them out, you should.
Fortunately, in the years since I read those the genre of paranormal romance has grown by leaps, shifts, fangs, and fur. I’ve always had a soft spot for shifter romance, and if you told me a book had wolves or cats or bears in it—well, I was so there. This hasn’t changed, not one bit. I don’t think there’s enough shifter romance in the world, but I did want to see more—what happens when young shifters leave their packs? What if they go off to school? How do they start over? How does a young wolf or cat or bear or any young person really make that final leap to adulthood?
I am thrilled to introduce Decadent ROAR as an answer to those questions. The line is dedicated to featuring stories about young weres and shifters who have come of age but now must determine the path of the rest of their lives. It's an exciting time of making your own decisions and not having to seek permission, but freedom always comes with a cost. Fortunately for these burgeoning adults, they have the ROAR hotline to reach out to.
Run by the mysterious siblings Hui and Min, 555-ROAR is a line shifters can text or call for help, whether it’s, What’s the best spot to hunt, or I’m in danger. What should I do? It’s a helpline, and a lifeline in some cases. Growing up is hard—being an adult is harder.
So what do we have to kick you off as ROAR launches a new school year? How about a mongrel attending college close to home who must contend with a sexy Alpha and his pride moving into her region? That’s the problem Mischief “Missy” Jones faces in Mischief,     Mongrels & Mayhem by Heather Long.
Pledging a sorority can be hell, but is it so bad when you have a demon on your side? Werewolf Alexandra will have to decide when Kieran promises to turn over heaven and hell to help her out in Sorority Wolf by Rebecca Royce.
Not everyone gets encouragement when they head off into the big, bad world on their own. This couldn’t be more true for fragile and abused Riletta who’s dumped at school with no options, no fallback, and no hope—that is until delicious Macen intervenes in the hot ride that is Phoenix Rising by Cara Carnes.
Choosing college can be a grueling experience, but, then again, so can diving into adulthood and taking responsibility for your actions. Samira faces s a lot of hard choices, none tougher than accepting human Gavin might be her mate in Lia Davis’ Imperfect Mates.
Life is what happens when you’re not paying attention, and the best things don’t always occur in the order you expect. They sure don’t for Avery and Declan. Both are busy setting up their lives but the allure of mating throws them for a loop in Brandy Walker’s Shifted Plans.
Attracting attention from the male species is a hard job, even more so when that male is a shifter. Some lines, though, are hard to cross, and
Jordan will fight his attraction to his best friend’s sister, Stacia, with everything he has in Tempting her Tiger by Virginia Cavanaugh.
Ultimately, the question these six stories must answer is not who will they be as adults, but who are they? How do they reconcile everything they've ever known with what can be? It's a new type of shifter romance, with all the love and passion required to achieve a happily ever after....
Thank you for joining us as we launch a hot new series—we’ll do our best to make every single tale memorable.
