Science Fiction Romance in Movies

By Jessica E. Subject
I really enjoy science fiction movies, whether about aliens, travelling to new worlds, or making the biggest discovery of scientific history. But it is the romantic sub-plots that make me want to watch the movie over and over again.

Here are some of my favorite Science Fiction Romance movies:
1. Star Wars (all episodes)
2. Avatar
3. Independence Day
4. Star Trek (2009)
5. Contact
6. Superman
7. The Day After Tomorrow
8. The Day the Earth Stood Still
9. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
10. Megamind

Sent to Airondelle, she must work with a team to prepare the newly discovered planet for colonists from Earth. But the mission does not go as she expected. Her former lover, Erik Edwards, shuns her, sending Calla into the arms of Melina Holloway, their commander, for the attention she craves and more. A confrontation among the trio leaves her with a broken heart, and fleeing from the two people she trusted most.

Great list, Jessica!

Favourite science fiction movies...hmm...I love FarScape, but that's a TV show and a mini-series...Hmm again...

Does Aliens count? That's one of my favourite movies of all time, and there's a hint of a love story between Ripley and Hicks. Ah, you know what? I'm going with it! Aliens!

The very best of luck and many sales with Never Gonna Let You Go, Jessica!

Thanks Cassandra! Great choices!

But, you know, I've never seen FarScape. Though I've heard so many great things about it. :)

It's impossible to choose. LOL It's also impossible to remember with a memory like mine but I do remember the first Starwars movie I saw and the way the spaceship covered the whole screen - instantly hooked! But it never looked the same on TV

No, no movie ever gives the same experience at home as it did at the theatre, unfortunately. Star Wars is great choice, Barbara! :-)

Out of that list, Independence Day is my fave. I also love The Fifth Element.

Great list! My favorite SciFi Romances are Star Wars & Galaxy Quest.

I stumbled across GQ this weekend & had forgotten how much fun this SciFi RomCom is!

Your book sounds great too! :)

Oh, my...no one mentioned Serendipity yet? Captain Tight Pants rides again.

Or Swamp Thing?

Or Rocky Horror Picture Show. (Hey, if you can count Indiana Jones, I can count that!) And...it references The Day the Earth Stood Still.

Faith - Yes, I love that movie so much! Finally got it on DVD. We had the VHS version for so long. Still works. LOL

C. Descoteaux - Thanks so much! Great choices! I haven't seen Galaxy Quest for a long time.

Taryn - Oh, I've heard all about Serenity, but haven't watched it. I do watch Nathan Fillion in Castle though. ;) Oh, and love the fourth Indiana Jones. Yeah, I have all four of those movies. :)

Hi Jess! Loved the trailer! Favorite sci-fi, I was thinking Aliens with Ripley and Hicks, but I had wished they actually hooked up, lol. I LOVE the Terminator, all of them, but the first, with Sara Conner and Kyle Reese...Okay, I adore Michael Bien, lol

I hated that he died, and if I had creative rights, I would have written a sequel to go back and save him! Screw the paradox, lol

Congrats on yet another awesome release Jessica
hugs

Kali - Thanks so much! Oh, you might just have to write that story. ;)

I grew up reading science fiction and watching it, too. I enjoy all of the movies you mentioned. But my favorites are Serenity and Independence Day.

Your new book sounds wonderful.

Good grief. I can't believe I morphed Serenity into Serendipity. What the HECK was I thinking? (Although I do love John Cusack in just about anything.) Good catch. I'm blushing a little.

Jessica E. Subject said...

Starla - Yes, I've watched Independence Day SO many times. It's high up on my list. :)Thank you!

Taryn - I've seen that done so many times before. You're not the only one. But I knew what you were talking about. :)

Thank you all for your recommendations! Going to have to check some of those out that I haven't seen already. One that involved young love is Super 8 which I just got. *grins* And I just watched Contact yesterday. Love it!

Anyway, the winner is: cdescoteauxwrites.

Congratulations! I've send you a DM through twitter since I don't know your email address.

All the best!
